Andrew Cronce, the former lover of Misty Roberts’, the Louisiana mayor disgraced out of office over allegations of improper relations with a minor, was found dead just weeks after her ex-husband accused him of being abusive, towards the children he shared with his ex, it was revealed Thursday.
Roberts, 43, who was convicted on Tuesday March 3, of having sex with her son’s 16-year-old friend, started dating William Andrew Cronce, 38, in the wake of her divorce from Duncan Clanton, the father of her children.
Having been found guilty of indecent behavior and having carnal knowledge of a minor, She now faces up to 17 years behind bars when she reports for sentencing in April.

The obituary described the 38-year-old as a loving and hardworking father, who coached baseball in the DeRidder community where Roberts served as mayor.
It is unclear how Cronce died, but his death came just about one month after Clanton accused him of being abusive in a civil restraining order to keep him away from his and Roberts’ two adolescent children.
In the January 24, 2024 application to a Beauregard Parish court, Clanton argued that Cronce, his ex-wife’s new lover, was an alcoholic with suicidal and ‘stalky’ tendencies.
Clanton prayed the court to grant the protection order on behalf of his daughter, then 10 years old, and son, 13.: ‘I am fearful for my children’s safety because William Andrew Cronce does have access to weapons/handguns, he is bold enough to publicly voice/threaten suicide and has shown stalking behavior with the mother of my children,’ he wrote.

He cites an instance during an argument with Roberts, where Cronce ‘exited the house loudly, shouting in front of [the children] that their mother needs to learn to shut her “c*** sucker” if she knows what’s good for her.’
He also mentioned that another occasion where Cronce allegedly, threatened suicide in a Facebook post following a breakup with Roberts. According to the filing, Cronce and was later found by police ‘incapacitated and unconscious with a gun on his person.
‘If he is brave enough to take his own life, what is stopping him from shooting Misty, our kids and himself?’ Clanton asked, the court.

Roberts, then 41 and a mother-of-two, was already divorced from Clanton when she was arrested in 2024, [photo], for having sex with a minor. She’d also broken the ‘abusive’ relationship with Cronce

Despite Cronce’s alleged ‘stalking’ of his Roberts by taking photos of her home and vehicle and sending them to her while they were broken up, she took him back.
According to the application, Clanton filed the request for a protection order after he said Roberts ignored his repeated pleas to keep Cronce away from their children, ignoring their daughter’s express wish not to see her lover.
Cronce ‘has a history of instability and alcoholism that is abusive in relationships,’ he stated in the court document.
‘Our children told me this is specifically the reason why [his and Roberts] relationship ended, because their mother didn’t want them to be raised in a household that way.
‘Now, they are back together and our children, in my opinion, are forced to witness a toxic relationship.’
On February 2, 2024, Cronce filed a response in the case, denying the abuse allegations and requesting the order be dismissed. Three weeks later, on February 23, Cronce was found dead.

In a a letter dated December 13, 2024, part of the court documents related to the former couple’s divorce and custody battle, which are now sealed, Roberts admitted that her ‘strained mental state’ following the divorce led her to engage in a ‘severely mental [sic] and physically abusive relationship,’ without mentioning the name of this person.
The divorce between Roberts and Clanton was particularly contentious, as the repeatedly traded insults.
In one text message from 2022, Clanton called Roberts ‘cold blooded, a ‘real piece of s***’ and ‘an alcoholic, cheating SOB.’ in another text he deriding her for being ‘shallow’, he told his ex to ‘have fun living your propped-up life!’
Things take a turn for the tawdry as with text messages from soon after their May 2022 divorce showing Clanton accusing Roberts of having affairs behind his back and demanding she ditch his last name.
‘It’s funny how many names have been given to me about who all you have slept with,’ he wrote.

Roberts who was in the middle of her second term as mayor of DeRidder, resigned days before the arrest in 2024. Curiously the estranged couple seemed more reconciled, agreeing to co-parent amicably in the wake of her legal woes

Somehow, the verbal brick-a-bat between the former couple seemed to subside days after the pool party that created the legal mess for Mayor Roberts. On July 23, 2024, three days after the incident, she wrote to Clanton, ‘I f***ed up, and I respect you enough to tell you,’
To which Clanton responds, ‘You are a great mom and that’s what’s going to be your foundation. That’s what’s [sic] is going to get you through it. You’re strong.’
Going further in another exchange he pledged his support for her through the anticipated turmoil, writing: ‘I won’t turn my back on you.’
Roberts then turned herself in that August and was soon released on a $100,00 surety bond.
Months later, in December of 2024, Roberts and Clanton agreed to maintain joint custody of their children.
However, as the children would now live with their father, making Clanton the primary custodian, the child support payments would be terminated.

Before the sex abuse case concluded on Tuesday, the victim took the stand and told the court that he was drunk at the time he and Roberts had sex.
‘I was kind of dizzy,’ he said. ‘I had to put my hands on the couch. My eyes were just like closed.’
He recalled that they had kissed by the pool before Roberts suggested a more private location, where she took her top off and pulled his pants down. 
‘While it was happening, I couldn’t feel my body.’
Following improper liaison, the victim’s mother reached to Roberts, inquiring if she was pregnant. Roberts said she was on birth control. She later ordered a Plan B on DoorDash, as the delivery driver revealed to the court during the trial.
She resigned as mayor soon as the rumors emerged and investigation launched. A few days later in July, 2024, she was then arrested.
She now faces up to 17 years behind bars for her attack on the boy, who was a year under Louisiana’s age of consent at the time of the incident.
