Officers responded to shooting at the Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, early Thursday. Suspect first crashed his truck into the building that burst into flames. Smoke seen coming out of the roof and a side door, reportedly came for the pickupÂ
The shooter who opened fire on Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan, early Thursday after reportedly crashing a car into the building has been neutralized.
Michigan State Police said an “active shooting incident” happened around 12:30 local time, Thursday, at the Temple Israel at 5725 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield Township, near the intersection of Walnut Lake and Drake roads.
According to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said it appears the attacker rammed a truck through the doors of Temple Israel and the truck traveled down the hall of the school into the building. One security officer was struck by the vehicle. Another guard fired shots at the vehicle, which burst into flames.

“The scene, we’re not getting any active stimulus at the moment. We have everything here that we need, including medics and tactical gear. We’re looking to see if there’s more than one person. We’re trying to figure that out,” Bouchard said.
The truck reportedly burst into flames following the crash with images from the scene show smoke coming out of windows and a vent on the roof.
The synagogue is a reform Jewish place of worship that has a preschool attached to it. It has one of the largest congregations in the country and was open at the time.
Sheriff Bouchard said security inside the synagogue ‘engaged the threat,’ and all teachers and children in the early childhood center are safe and accounted for.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit said: ‘We are aware of an active security incident at Temple Israel. Law enforcement are responding.Â
‘Our Jewish agencies are currently in precautionary lockdown We ask community members to stay away from the area at this time.’
FBI Director Kash Patel said that bureau personnel were on the scene assisting in efforts.Â
