<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A renowned anesthesiologist<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/hawaii/index.html"> </a>accused of attempting to push his nuclear scientist wife to her death off a Hawaii cliff made an eerie threat before shoving her, his trial heard.<br>Arielle Konig, 37, claims her doctor husband, Gerhardt Konig, 47, attacked her while they were on the Nuuanu hiking trail near the Pali Lookout on March 24 last year &#8211; which happened to be her 36th birthday.<br>The prominent Pittsburgh doctor who pulled roots from Pennsylvania to Hawaii in 2020, is on trial, charged with the attempted murder of his wife, whom he accused her having an affair in the months leading to his alleged attempt to push her off a cliff on a Hawaiian hiking trail.<br>The victim, a nuclear engineer, took the stand on her birthday Tuesday and testified that Gerhardt &#8216;forcefully&#8217; grabbed her by her arms and pushed her toward a cliff.<br>&#8216;He said, &#8220;I&#8217;m so f***ing sick of this s***, get back over there&#8221; and he starts pushing me back toward the cliff,&#8217; she testified.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Arielle said she threw herself to the ground, but Konig started straddling her and tried to inject her with a syringe, the jury heard.<br>She allegedly knocked the syringe away and tried to fight him off, but he responded by repeatedly hitting her in the head with a rock. <br>She told the court he &#8216;used his full force&#8217; when he struck her and, with tears in her eyes, lifted her bangs to show the court the scar that still remains from the incident. <br>Konig admits to bashing Arielle over the head with a rock at an Oahu beauty spot in March 2025, but claims she attacked him first. His attorney also argued the incident was a &#8216;human reaction&#8217; to Arielle&#8217;s three-month-long affair with her co-worker.<br>Arielle told the court that the attack happened after Konig discovered text messages between her and her co-worker Jeff Miller.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She testified that her husband of six years would check her phone and emails daily, and tried to order that they have sexual intercourse on a schedule. These allegations were struck from the court record.<br>He confronted her while the pair were on vacation and called her a &#8216;lying b***h&#8217; and &#8216;whore,&#8217; the court heard.<br>Arielle admitted that the messages were &#8216;flirty in nature,&#8217; but said her relationship with Miller was never sexual or physical.<br>&#8216;I was apologetic,&#8217; she testified. &#8216;He was obviously hurt. I was committed to my marriage, to rebuild. It felt like an affair to him. It was an emotional affair to him.&#8217; <br>The morning of the alleged attack, the couple woke up at their hotel and had breakfast before heading out. <br>Konig presented his wife with a birthday gift of a necklace as well as a card. Arielle Konig became emotional when her husband’s defense team asked her to read the contents card out loud.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The doctor called her &#8216;angel face&#8217; and wrote that &#8216;there isn&#8217;t an obstacle in this world too hard for me to fight through for you.&#8217;<br>Konig described her as &#8216;one of the kindest, most giving, and selfless people&#8217; that he knows and said she was the &#8216;heart of our family.&#8217;<br>He also called her a &#8216;terrific mom&#8217; and said: &#8216;I hit the jackpot with you.&#8217;<br>Prosecutors allege that Konig attacked his wife out of the blue on the cliff edge of the picturesque hiking spot, before two other walkers saw them during the struggle. <br>The defendant broke down weeping, at the commencement of his trial last week as jurors listened to the audio of a phone call he made to his son after the incident, admitting to his action, threatening he was going to kill himself.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The court was also shown an image of Arielle after she survived the alleged attack, showing her with blood seeping from her head and face after apparently being struck by the rock. <br>Konig&#8217;s attorney, Thomas Otake, said her injuries were not as bad as they looked in the picture and said she only suffered a small laceration to her eyebrow as he argued last week.<br>The trial should be an assault case, not attempted murder, Otake argues. <br>But a physician from Queen&#8217;s Medical Center testified about Arielle&#8217;s injuries Tuesday, claiming she had suffered crushed tissue down to the skull.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She also had small pieces of rock embedded in her skin, the doctor told the court. <br>Last week, the defense argued that Arielle attacked Konig first, with Otake telling jurors: &#8216;She picks up a rock and hits him in the face with it, and he quickly reacts, human reaction, grabs the rock, hits her twice, and stops.&#8217; <br>But prosecutors allege he tried to push his wife off a ledge on the trail and attempted to stab her with a syringe before beating her with a jagged rock. <br>The attack only ended when the two female hikers heard her pleas for help and called 911, the prosecution argued.</p>

He then called his son, confessed to attacking his wife and said he was going to take his own life </strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Konig&#8217;s lawyers, however, argued that police never found a syringe or evidence that he tried to inject his wife with any substance.<br>The defendant fled the scene after the attack was broken by the imminent arrival of law enforcement. <br>An audio recording was introduced showing that Konig in flight, called his son and confessed to attacking his wife. He also said he was going to take his own life in the call. <br>An eight-hour manhunt ensued in the dense woodland, and just as the search was called off for the night, three police officers spotted Konig running out of the forest. <br>He was chased him down and placed in custody.<br>Konig pled not guilty to the charges and the trial which continues Thursday, is expected to last until mid-April. </p>
