A prominent Hawaii anesthesiologist is in custody after he allegedly tried to murder his wife by attempting to shoving her down a sheer cliff on a hiking trail in Oahu, Hawaii according to police.
46-year-old Dr. Gerhardt Konig of Maui, Honolulu was arrested on Monday after he allegedly attacked his 36-year-old wife, Arielle Konig, hitting her in the head with a rock before the shove at the Pali Lookout in Oahu. The attack caused the victim with multiple facial and head injuries, leaving her in critical condition.

Arielle, a nuclear engineer, survived to tell police that her husband had assaulted her with closed fists and a rock before he tried to shove her off the hiking trail. According to local media reports, Arielle Konig told police that her husband attacked her after she refused to take a picture with him.
In a chilling sign the alleged attempted murder was pre-planned, Dr. Konig is said to have produced two syringes containing an unknown substance and poked Arielle with them. While he repeatedly punched his wife and hitting her with the rock, at some point, he then tried to poke her with two syringes.
Arielle was transported to hospital with serious head and facial trauma, local media reported.

Police sealed off the the Pali Lookout in Oahu after the incident on Monday. The suspect reportedly was found in near the hiking trail and placed in custody, after fleeing the scene on foot
The suspect was taken into custody close to Pali Highway after a brief foot chase around 6:45 pm on Monday, approximately eight hours after the alleged attack.
‘HPD officers located Gerhardt Konig near Pali Highway and arrested him after a brief foot pursuit. Charges are pending. Mahalo to the public for your assistance,’ Honolulu police said in a statement.
The couple who wed in 2018, live in Maui in a $1.5million home, but were visiting the beauty spot in Oahu at the time of the alleged incident.

Though the they pair have been married for seven years, it is not clear that they share any children. Gerhardt Konig however, has at least one child from a previous marriage .
Konig has been suspended from his job for an independent contractor that serves various facilities under Maui Health.
‘Maui Health is committed to patient safety and upholding the highest standards of care,’ Maui Health told KHON2 a statement.

It’s unclear if the couple who have been married for seven years share any children, but Gerhardt Konig has at least two children from a previous marriage
‘We have been made aware of the allegations against Gerhardt Konig, MD. Dr. Konig has been suspended from the Medical Staff pending investigation.’
Konig previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Medicine and Engineering.
He then took a partner role at the Anesthesia Medical Group in Maui.
