<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An Alabama father whose son&#8217;s girlfriend was shot dead in mysterious circumstances at the family&#8217;s home, has been charged two months after her death was ruled an accident.<br>Jeffrey Scott Towers, 54, was abruptly charged with manslaughter on Monday in the death of Whitney Harlow Robeson, after being arrested without incident about 5pm.<br>22-year-old Robeson from a Richmond, Virginia, recently graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University in the College of Human Sciences interior design program. She had just started as a trade consultant with Restoration Hardware in Birmingham, Alabama. <br>On the evening of March 7, she was shot at the home of her boyfriend Brandon Towers, in Trussville, Alabama. Transported to a local hospital, Robeson was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound.<br>The Jefferson County Coroner&#8217;s Office called the shooting accidental at the time, but no details of what happened at 9.21 that night have ever been released.<br>Jeffrey Towers was arrested after extensive extensive investigation by the department&#8217;s Criminal Investigations Division. He was released a few hours later after posting $30,000 bond.<br>A court date for his arraignment is yet to be determined.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Arguing that &#8216;What happened to Ms. Robeson was a tragic event,&#8217; the suspect&#8217;s defense attorneys denied accusations that he was criminally responsible for the death of Robeson.<br>&#8216;While we understand that the justice system must play out, we know that the facts will show that Mr Towers has no criminal history, has been a productive and upstanding citizen for his entire life, and is not guilty of these charges,&#8217; the release from the law firm of Dain Stewart at Amari, stated.</p>
