<p>A New York accountant was brutally murdered hours into her Jamaican birthday vacation as chilling messages to her family revealed the horrific danger she faced in her final moments and her husband was named a person of interest.<br>Melissa Kerry Samnath died from blunt force trauma to the head at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James, Jamaica on April 29, 2026, The day she turned 35.<br>Samnath, a US Citizen reportedly traveled to Jamaica to celebrate her birthday with her new husband Dane Watson, who resides on the Caribbean island. Investigators on the island said Samnath <a href="https://www.facebook.com/JamaicaConstabularyForce/posts/pfbid0KMUSy3csSWwz3tPQkXdRn9amtP6HYr41xH7EXQkszs35jkQRjhU6XZtE5uh7obfFl">wedded</a> the tour guide in December of 2025. </p>

<p>Hours before her death, Samnath reportedly, <a href="https://jamaica-gleaner.com/article/news/20260510/call-cops-final-plea-ny-tourist-killed-jamaica">sent a premonitive message</a> to her family pleading that they contact authorities: “I need you to call the cops. … Look at my location … It is a pink house,” she wrote over WhatsApp just before 11 p.m. on April 28.<br>Samnath had just landed on the Caribbean island earlier in the day for her 35th birthday vacation. Within hours of her haunting message, she was abandoned in a wheelchair at the local hospital with severe injuries by her husband, Dane Watson, Island police said. <br>Investigators report that on April 29, Samnath was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James by Watson. Hospital personnel alerted the police after Samnath was pronounced dead. However, Dane who reportedly left the medical facility shortly after assisting his wife from a vehicle, was gone and remains at large. <br>Jamaica Constabulary Force launched an investigation into the suspected homicide, declaring Dane a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1398622438975815&;set=a.451955763642492" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">person of interest</a>. <br>Executing a search of Dane&#8217;s residence in St. James Parish, near Montego Bay, revealed evidence of a possible crime. Pools of blood and some of Samnath’s belongings were found inside the house.</p>

<p>The couple had been spotted on surveillance footage walking from the victim&#8217;s Airbnb to Watson’s residence as he carried her suitcase hours before her death.<br>Dane allegedly called his mother to confess to killing his wife after dumping her off.<br>“His mother called to tell us she got a phone call from him saying he killed her and dropped her off in a wheelchair at the hospital. He didn’t even have the audacity to take her into the hospital,” Samnath’s niece Janice Wynter revealed to a local news outlet.<br>Watson and Samnath are believed to have married back in December 2025, according to police. The couple are believed to have met online before Samnath traveled to Jamaica for her birthday.</p>

<p>Despite the widespread manhunt and widespread circulation of the case on social media, the murder suspect is still on the run.<br>Dane from Ocho Rios, relocated to Montego Bay about two years before the murder. Police said the suspect is known to frequent St James, St Ann, and St Mary.<br>Samnath’s family confirmed her death in a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-melissas-family-after-tragic-loss-4phuh">GoFundMe </a>on May 4. The crowd funding is expected to help the family with funeral expenses, with the remaining cash going towards supporting organizations that assist victims of domestic violence in her name.</p>
