An expectant mother was kidnapped, stabbed to death and had her baby torn from her womb, days after she revealed she was going to have a girl. 
María Camila Potosí, 21, was eight months pregnant when she disappeared after leaving her home in Cali, Colombia, on July 16 for a routine antenatal check. 
Potosí was found dead on Monday July 20, wrapped in sheets and underneath her blanket by the bank of the River Meléndez, four miles from her home in Cali.
According to authorities in Cali when the heavily pregnant woman was found she her hands and feet were bound and she had been stabbed multiple times. Her unborn child had been cut from her womb and was missing.

The rider, Julieth Angulo, who had reportedly befriended María Camila through a program for expectant mothers, gave inconsistent statements to the police and the victim’s family regarding their whereabouts.
Angulo is still a central focus of the probe into Potosí’s tragic death, while police are continuing the search for the missing child. 
Potosí’s mother, Ana Rubi Gomez, has made an emotional plea for the safe return of her granddaughter, who she named Alahia. She called on the community to help track down the missing infant.

Just hours before she was kidnapped, Potosí had helped care for a sick relative at her sister-in-law’s home in Meléndez before her appointment. 
She then told her mother about a last-minute medical errand.
According to Noticias Caracol, Maria had just left an appointment at the Los Polvorines Health Center in southern Cali before getting on the pillion seat of a motorbike that was captured on surveillance footage.
Her husband raised the alarm when she failed to return home. .

Angulo reportedly has changed her version of events to police and the deceased’s family, several times. She remains a central focus of the probe into Potosí’s death

Angulo was turned in by relatives who alerted the authorities after finding evidence linking her to the case in their home, including the missing woman’s shoes. Angulo’s ex revealed she’d faked two pregnancies in the past, only to claim miscarriages.

According to Colombian media, Angulo’s was turned in by her own relatives who alerted the authorities after finding evidence that would link her to the case in their home, including the missing woman’s shoes.
Angulo’s ex-partner, Carlos Rincón, revealed that Angulo in the past had faked two pregnancies, only to claim miscarriages.
“This is the second time something similar has happened; the first time he supposedly lost the baby, but there was never a real record.”
Rincón said Angulo even showed him ultrasounds and prenatal check-ups. At the time he said, he could not attend regularly attend the doctors visits because they coincided with his work schedule.

Potosí was found dead on Monday July 20, wrapped in sheets and underneath a blanket by the bank of the River Meléndez, four miles from her home in Cali.

The revelation by Rincon reinforced appears to reinforce earlier reports that Yuliet Angulo would have met María Camila Potosí while both participated in a program for pregnant mothers of the Ministry of Social Welfare of Cali.
The institution confirmed that the Angulo stopped dropped out of the program in during April after reporting that she had miscarried.
Authorities have reported that four other people would be under investigation for their eventual involvement in the crime, although they maintain reservations about the proceedings and so far have not officially confirmed other arrests in the case.
Meanwhile, Potosí’s family are hoping that the baby is still alive. They have reiterated their appeal for information leading to her recovery.

The case is being investigated as a potential femicide, though no arrests have been made yet.  
Cali human rights ombudsman Gerardo Mendoza demanded a ‘swift, exhaustive investigation with a gender focus’.
He added that the ‘extreme gravity’ of the crime ‘cannot go unpunished’.
Meanwhile, senator-elect Jennifer Pedraza said about the case: ‘They kidnapped, tortured and murdered a 21-year-old pregnant woman. 
‘In this country, nothing happens. We demand justice.’
Former presidential candidate Sondra Macollins said: ‘What impotence this causes. We trust that the Public Prosecutor’s Office and police will deliver rigorous answers.’
