Underworld enforcer David Glover reliving gangland torture. Claims he didn’t conduct torture or killing. He says he was merely there while SOMEONE yanked out Collier’s teeth with pliers
They told him they were looking for revenge after Conroy’s dad’s grave was desecrated.
It was then that a plan was hatched to target Collier.
A report from The Newcastle Chronicle reports that Glover admitted: “I knew there would be trouble when I got in the car, with Paddy there was always trouble.
“But I still went along due to a mixture of fear and loyalty.
“I’d grown up with Paddy, he was my friend and someone had shot at his house.
“We were driving down Elswick Road when we came to a shop and saw Collier.
“Paddy shouted to go and get him so we jumped out and dragged him into the Range Rover.
“He was absolutely terrified. We then drove him to my backyard in Elswick.” A former mobster has relived the torture of a gangland rival – whose teeth were dragged out with a pair of pliers – in an explosive interview.

Paddy Conroy the admitted instigator of the incident was jailed for the death of Bill Collier – but Glover contradicts the prosecution case and says Conroy wasn’t there
To start with, Glover, Conroy and his thugs battered Collier with a piece of lumber and a gas canister – beating him about the legs while he screamed in agony.
The victim was then taken to an apartment and subjected to hellish torture. In his interview Glover insists he was not the man who carried out the attack and that Paddy Conroy was not in the room during the torture session.
He said: “We put him on a chair and someone took out a pair of pliers.
“He pulled his teeth out, tried to rip his nostrils out and clipped his ears.
“All the time it was happening Collier was screaming. It went on for at least 15 minutes. I then left and went to visit my dad in Durham Prison.”
The pair, Conroy and Glover were convicted of the 1995 torture and were jailed for 11-and-a-half years and 10-and-a-half years respectively.
Glover was later branded a ‘supergrass’ after a court heard he had written a prison cell confession to the attack, saying he had been enlisted as “back-up” for Conroy.
But on the stand, he recanted. He claimed he was psychotic at the time he wrote the note in Birmingham’s Winson Green jail.
David Glover goes into detail on how the pair of pliers was used on the victim
Despite this objection, the court ruled Glover’s statements could be introduced as evidence against Conroy, who was subsequently convicted.
Glover who says at no time been an informant to the police, maintains he never signed the statement and had not signed any statements with regards to the trial.
The former gangster, who is battling a mental illness now insists he has turned his back on his life of crime and just focused on being a good dad to his four children.
He cautions youngsters not to follow his path into the world of crime.
“I saw that torture happen and I can’t live with it now. I have flashbacks every time I close my eyes,” he said. “I wasted my childhood and spent 30 years of my life being moved from prison to prison.
“I was a double Category A prisoner and was locked up with some of the most evil people in the country.
“I was friends with Charles Bronson. He is a real gentleman and nothing like what he is portrayed as.
“Now I want to live for my kids and get healthy again.
“I do not want my [12-year-old] son to end up with the life I had.
“My advice to any youngsters who are thinking of a life of crime is: don’t do it.
“Think of your mother, your sister and your kids. Get a good education and a job.
“I hope this draws a line under this sad time of my life.”
Despite admitting conducting the abduction and beating of Bill Collier, Glover and Conroy deny any complicity in his death. They maintain they are innocent to this day.
