<div class="ra-byline">A judge ordered Nick Gordon to pay $36 million to Bobbi Kristina Brown&#8217;s estate Thursday, a little under two months after he was ruled legally responsible for her death.</p>

<article id="ra-body">Nick Gordon was found liable mainly because he was a no-show in court after ignoring discovery requests and plaintiff motions, the judge admitted as &#8220;fact&#8221; the allegations made by Brown&#8217;s estate.<br />
At the time the Houston estate lawyer,R. David Ware, said “You simply can’t avoid justice, and you can’t thumb your nose at a court process,&#8221; Ware told said. &#8220;But this is more about Bobbi Kristina Brown and showing without any question that Mr. Gordon is legally responsible for her injuries and death. We look forward to having a jury tell us what that’s worth.&#8221;</p>

<p>The estate’s attorneys cited Gordon’s April &#8220;Dr. Phil&#8221; interview — during which Gordon, 26, admitted he’d “ignored this lawsuit and its consequences” amid other revelations concerning Brown’s drug use and eventual death — as evidence he had “thumbed (his) nose” at the court, tweeted a reporter from NBC affiliate <a href="http://www.11alive.com/news/local/judge-rules-nick-gordon-legally-responsible-in-bobbi-kristina-browns-death/319369301" target="_blank">11Alive</a>, which first reported the news.<br />
The interview infuriated Bobby Brown and he added his name to the wrogful death suit file by the Houston estate. The other member of the family were no less annoyed.<br />
&#8220;It’s been a long time. They should have been gotten him. He should have been arrested,&#8221; Brown&#8217;s aunt Leolah Brown told the news station following the hearing. &#8220;He&#8217;s ignorant; he&#8217;s arrogant. He thinks he&#8217;s above the law. He&#8217;s not.&#8221;</p>

<article id="ra-body">“The defendant ignores this Court&#8217;s mandates but freely discusses his role in the incident which led to the horrific injuries to decedent Bobbi Kristina,” the court document stated.<br />
The only daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston was found in a bathtub Jan. 31, 2015 face-down and unresponsive, and later died in hospice care after a six-month coma. Her death resulted from drowning and mixed drug intoxication, according to the autopsy report unsealed earlier this year.<br />
Brown&#8217;s conservator&#8217;s multi-million dollar wrongful death suit, meanwhile, alleged Gordon had caused her brain damage by knocking her out with a drug cocktail and leaving her in a tub filled with cold water.<br />
Gordon, who has repeatedly maintained his innocence, has not been charged criminally. A criminal investigation into Brown&#8217;s death remains ongoing.</p>

<p>Brown’s estate had been seeking $40 million from Gordon — Brown’s former boyfriend — in its wrongful death lawsuit against him, which was filed in October 2015.<br />
Brown’s father, singer Bobby Brown, contended his daughter had a major career ahead of her in the entertainment industry before her untimely passing.</p>

In a statement after the ruling, he called for action from the district attorney in criminal charges.</p>

<p>&#8220;I do know that Mr. Gordon will be unable to slander my daughter&#8217;s name in the future or obtain any benefits from the use of Krissy&#8217;s name,&#8221; he said.<br />
&#8220;Finally, I do need for the District Attorney&#8217;s Office to step up and begin the criminal prosecution of Mr. Gordon. The delay in that matter is of great concern to me and my family. We need for District Attorney Howard to act now.&#8221;<br />
Gordon was deemed legally responsible for Brown’s death in September after he failed to show up at a court hearing in Fulton County, Ga.</p>

<p>Brown — the only child of legendary vocalist Whitney Houston — was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub filled with cold water in her Georgia home in January 2015.<br />
After six months in a coma, she died in hospice care at the age of 22. An autopsy report later concluded her death was the result of mixed drug intoxication coupled with drowning.<br />
Brown’s conservator blamed Gordon — who was dating the entertainer at the time she was discovered in the bathtub — for her death, accusing him of drugging her and leaving her for dead in the water.<br />
Gordon has maintained his innocence, and a criminal investigation remains ongoing.</p>
