The former high school teacher is barred from teaching and makes a living stripping
24-year-old, Mary Beth Haglin who has turned to stripping now she is barred from teaching, faces serving two years behind bars after she was convicted of exploiting the 17-year-old student she claimed was her boyfriend.
Last October, Haglin went on the The Dr Phil Show and admitted sleeping with the 17-year-old boy on an almost daily basis for six months and bombarding him with sexy selfies.
She said: “The student is the one who seduced me. He did so with such intelligence and such an elevated vocabulary that I was completely duped by the whole facade.”
Haglin claims the teen penned heartfelt notes and texts to entice her, after she became vulnerable following a difficult relationship with her boyfriend.
Some of the snaps she texted her teen lover showed the teacher reclining against a wall dressed in nothing but a sheer top, bra and g-string.
Potent Love weapon: May Beth Haglin with her trove of love notes – that ‘she fell in love with the student after he seduced her’
Her uncensored interview with Dr. Phil came back to haunt her after prosecutors upgraded her misdemeanor charge to the more serious offence of sexual exploitation after the recordings.
However, she caught a break and ended up being shielded from the tougher charge by agreeing to a bench trial with a judge ruling rather than a jury rule on the misdemeanor charge and excluding the talk show interviews being considered as evidence.
Some of the more damning quotes from her interview include an instance where she claimed she was misled by the youth: “The student is the one who seduced me. He did so with such intelligence and such an elevated vocabulary that I was completely duped by the whole facade.”
Mary Beth Haglin on Dr Phil “We had sex , almost daily, in his car, my car, his mom’s house, and his dad’s house”
“I did ignore a lot of that at first because obviously, I knew that it was illegal, not allowed, frowned upon – everything.”
She went on to tell the TV therapist: “We had sex, almost daily. In his car, my car, his mom’s house, and his dad’s house.
“When things got way out of control, and I wanted out, he began saying ‘I will light a match and burn your life down.’”
During the course of yet another interview with Inside Edition, Haglin revealed that the boy compared their relationship to Oscar-winning movie The Graduate (1967) – in which Dustin Hoffman’s character is seduced by older woman Mrs Robinson. She insisted that she fell in love with the teen after he seduced her.

She said: “I was completely head over heels.
“He would come into my classroom, grab a Post-It, write something and stick it to my desk on his way out.
“One read, ‘I love you so much, my empress.’”
In return for the notes she sent the boy sexy snaps showing her posing in racy underwear.
Haglin confirmed the pair would meet in a car park nearly every day and have sex in her vehicle. She said: “We met several times a week, not every time was just to have sex.
“There were times we would sit and talk. I thought in my mind this was some sort of real relationship.”
Although the former teacher admitted turning him on by sending him sexy selfies, she insisted: “The student is the one who seduced me.” He “caught me in my weakest moments, and he used that to his advantage.”
The affair ended when another pupil saw them together. While the age of consent in Iowa is 16, Haglin was charged because she was in a position of authority.
The school district terminated her employment and she was arrested in July after turning herself into police.
Admitting she made a “terrible mistake,” Haglin said : “I realize how stupid I was and what a terrible mistake I made.
“I thought that it was something that could be kept secret and that nobody would ever know.”
“I want to go back and smack myself and ask: ‘What were you thinking Mary Beth?’
“I never thought it would get this far and I apologize to each and every person I hurt.”
“I realize how stupid I was and what a terrible mistake I made”
The defendant who showed no emotion when Judge Kevin McKeever found her guilty of sexual exploitation by a school employee, will be sentenced on February 17.
She is facing a maximum of two years or a fine of up to $6,250. She must also register for 10 years as a sex offender.
