Katelyn Nicole Davis, filmed her suicide outside her Cedartown home on Dec. 30 after posting that she had been sexually molested by a family member.
The footage shows the tragic victim dangling from a tree for about 20 minutes while a woman shouts her name off camera.
Cops didn’t arrive in time to save her, and she was pronounced dead at the Polk Medical Center.
Since her death, the footage of her suicide has been seen all over the world — causing the Polk County Police Department to be inundated with calls to take it down, including from concerned overseas viewers.
The Polk County Police Chief, Kenny Dodd, said he has no jurisdiction over social media besides to reach out to Facebook with requests for footage to be taken down by the private posters.
“We want it down as much as anyone for the family and it may be harmful to other kids,”he told Fox 5 Atlanta. “We contacted some of the sites. They asked if they had to take it down and by law, they don’t.”
He added, “But it’s just the common, decent thing to do in my opinion.”
Local paper, the Coosa Valley News reported that just days prior to her suicide, Katelyn Davis detailed the claims of abuse on her blog, saying that she was beaten with a studded belt and that a male relative “tried to rape” her.
Davis allegedly, had been researching different ways to end her life.
The Polk County authorities on their website said an investigation was launched after allegations of abuse and sexual assault was posted on her diary back on December 27th. However, as of Wednesday, Chief Dodd did say that no charges have been filed. The autopsy on Katelyn Davis has yet to be completed by the GBI to show her exact cause of death.
