Two-year old Karson Southerland, who managed to survive the ordeal which claimed the life of his 20-year-old mother Ali Renee Brown, about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 12.<br />
Brown, a former cheerleader who graduated from high school just two years ago, had recently moved from the St. Louis suburbs to Kansas City, seeking a fresh start.<br />
&#8216;She was very happy and very outgoing,&#8217; brother Trent Brown said in a Tuesday interview with the <a class="" href="http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article127081004.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Kansas City Star</a>. &#8216;She would do anything for anyone.&#8217;</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">Doctors are optimistic the toddler will survive the trauma according to victim&#8217;s brother Trent Brown, adding that he had no idea why anyone would want to shoot his sister or the others in the apartment.<br />
Brown&#8217;s her former boyfriend Ryan Edwards posted on Facebook: &#8216;I truly lost the love of my life,&#8217; Edwards wrote.<br />
&#8216;Why wasn&#8217;t I there to protect you?&#8217;<br />
Brown graduated from Francis Howell Central High School in St. Charles, Missouri, in 2014. There, she competed in All-American Cheer as a cheerleader, and was involved in volleyball, softball, and gymnastics.</p>

<p class="imageCaption">On Thursday night, neighbors reported hearing at least five gunshots in the apartment complex around 9:30.<br />
Officers responded to the scene, at the Trails at the Ridge apartment complex, shortly before 10 p.m.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">There, they found Thomas and one of the women dead. Another woman was rushed to the hospital, where she died.<br />
Police have made few details of the case public, saying only that they are seeking three male suspects who may have been driving a black or blue four-door vehicle.<strong> </strong></p>

&#8216;Ali was an outgoing young lady who definitely lived out loud,&#8217; an obituary from Baue Funeral &; Memorial Center read. &#8216;Ali is gone too soon, but her memory and her vibrant spirit will live on through all of those who loved her.&#8217;<br />

is the daughter of one time mayor of St. Peters, Shawn Brown who was convicted and jailed for taking a $2,750 bribe from a traffic camera vendor.</p>

<p>No arrestes have been made in the case. Kansas City is one of seven cities driving a national spike in homicides, accoring to an FBI 2016 report.<br />
There were 127 homicides in Kansas City last year, the highest number since 1998 and a stunning 60 percent increase from the city&#8217;s historic low rate in 2014, according to city police data.</p>
