A rape victim was left with what doctors call a “floating face” after her abuser pulled the skin from her skull during a brutal attack.
According to Metro, the  woman whose identity remains hidden for legal reasons, was reportedly asleep inside a tent on the banks of River Severn in Bewdley, Worcestershire, UK last summer, when Anthony Laine, 30, entered the tent and forced himself on her sexually and physically, leaving her with severe injuries. She was later found unconscious in a pool of blood. No weapon was found and police believe Laine who has been described as a ‘violent maniac’, inflicted the injuries with his bare hands.
The woman recorded a video statement following the incident, where she shared details on the attack that “ruined” her life.
“I come across as a strong person… I’m not really. I’m looking at lots more operations, lots more time in hospital. I’m in constant pain. I can’t eat properly. I can’t open my mouth to yawn,” she revealed during in the court showing.
Laine a former drug addict who priors include jail time for glassing his own father in 2008, admitted two rapes and causing grievous bodily harm. He also pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and three common assaults in separate incidents.
He was sentenced to a term of  12 years and will serve an extended period of eight years on licence.
At sentencing Judge Daniel Pearce-Higgins said: “There is a significant risk of the defendant causing serious harm to members of the public, particularly women.”
The prosecutor, Timothy Sapwell said during hearing that the woman, who has little recollection from the assault, suffered a 4-inch cut down the middle of her forehead, a v-shaped cut over her right eye and another over her left eye.

‘The injuries required a nine and a half hour operation where bone grafts from other parts of the skull were used to repair her nose. Metal plates and screws were also put into the eye sockets,  cheek and jawbone’.

“It’s described in medical terms as floating face. Doctors said her injuries were akin to those suffered during a car crash or as a result of a high velocity impact with heavy object,” he said.
Both eyes were also swollen shut and her eyelids had to be cut open to relieve pressure on her eyes.
A CT scan at hospital revealed serious underlying fractures to her face called ‘Le Fort Fractures’.
One of the fractures ran above her teeth and upper jaw with another running from the bridge of her nose across the floor of the eye socket to the hinge of her jaw.
The prosecution told the court: ‘The front of the [victim’s] face was completely detached from the skull and smashed in two. It’s described in medical terms as floating face.’
The injuries required a nine and a half hour operation where bone grafts from other parts of the skull were used to repair her nose. Metal plates and screws were also put into her eye sockets, her cheek and jawbone during the surgery.
The victim, who has no feeling in her top lip, also said she doesn’t like leaving the house because she feels people are looking at her.
When asked about her attacker, she replied, “Words can’t express how scared I am.”
An indefinite sexual harm prevention order was made as well as a restraining order preventing Laine from having contact with the victim.
