The Easter weekend kicked off with tragedy in Tuscon, Arizona as police swarmed the Firebirds Wood Fire Grill after an unexpected shooting Friday night and found Eliot Cobb, 57, dead inside. Also killed was another man, said to be the shooter, who was identified as a local fire firefighter who doubled as an Emergency Management and Homeland Security captain.
According to the police report a Tucson Fire captain Frederick Bair, 60, a 24-year veteran of the Tucson Fire Department, shot and killed a man and wounded his ex-wife before turning his gun on himself inside the busy Foothills restaurant on Friday night.
Startled patrons scrambled for escape as the sounds of gunfire ripped through the packed restaurant at La Encantada Mall around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, there was a stampede as diners ran out of the restaurant for safety, witnesses said.
Responding Pima County Sheriff’s deputies found the two men dead of gunshot wounds, in an apparent murder-suicide.

The suspect, Captain Frederick Bair, first shot his 57-year-old ex-wife, Mary Jo Bair, in the leg. The former Mrs Bair, a Pima County court reporter, is expected to survive.
Witness David Hardin told the Arizona Daily Star he was celebrating a family event at the Wood Grill restaurant, Friday evening when the shooting started.
“We hit the deck,” Hardin told the Tucson paper. “It was pretty startling, surreal actually.”
Another witness also celebrating a birthday said terrified patrons huddled under tables for at least five minutes, according to KGUN-TV.
It’s unclear what prompted the shooting. All three people knew each other, police said. Mary Jo Bair and the male victim, Cobb allegedly, were friends on Facebook.
