James M. Bradley Jr., 60, is believed to be from Florida. He was booked into a federal jail in San Antonio on human trafficking charges for his alleged role in what U.S. Attorney Richard Durbin called “an alien smuggling venture gone horribly wrong.”
“We’re working on a complaint right now,” Durbin said. “He’s in custody and he will be charged.”
The truck was parked at a back corner of the Walmart parking lot at 8538 S. Interstate 35 and Texas 16 on the Southwest Side at least since Saturday night. The eight immigrants are believed to have died as a result of heat exposure/asphyxiation, according to a San Antonio Police Department news release, but an official cause of death will be determined by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Ten out of the human cargo were already dead early Sunday inside a sweltering trailer that had been parked at a Walmart parking lot in southwest San Antonio, and dozens more inside the unventilated vehicle had suffered from heat-related injuries in what police suspect is a failed human trafficking operation, officials said.
Police made the tragic discovery after a man managed to get out of the truck and ask a Walmart employee for water, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said early S.
Some of the passengers escaped into a nearby wooded area as police opened the trailer, McManus said early Sunday.
Inside the trailer, authorities found survivors suffering from heatstroke and dehydration.
“They were very hot to the touch,” Fire Chief Charles Hood said.

San Antonio cops board the trailer containing illegal immigrants in San Antonio with tragic consequences, early Sunday

The truck’s air conditioning had stopped working, and there was no sign of water in the trailer, Hood noted.
Authorities said at least two children were among those found inside the trailer.
The parking lot is located at the intersection of Interstate 38 and Highway 16, about 130 miles from the Mexico border.
Temperatures in the south Texas city had reached triple-digits Saturday amid a days-long heat wave.
It’s unclear where the truck came from or how long it had been parked at the Walmart.
Surveillance footage showed several vehicles approaching the trailer to pick up survivors, police said.
Investigators were still searching for evidence in the trailer, which has an Iowa license plate and no other markings. The vehicle is registered under Pyle Transportation Inc., a trucking company based in Schaller, Iowa.
First responders treated the discovery as a mass-casualty incident, taking 20 people to hospitals in serious and critical condition. Eight more people were treated for less severe injuries, officials said.

Announcing the arrest of truck driver, James Bradley, Chief McManus said once the passengers have received medical treatment, they will be handed over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
“This is not an isolated incident. This happens quite frequently,” McManus said during a press briefing.
Although the tractor-trailer truck has Iowa plates and is owned by Pyle Transportation, which is based in Schaller, Iowa,Mike Pyle and Tom Kolton, co-owners of the company told the San Antonio Express-News that James Bradley is an owner-operator who owns his own semi-truck, but is authorized to haul under the Pyle name.
“It’s our trailer, but it’s his truck,” Mike Pyle told the newspaper.
Bradley was not authorized to haul anything in Texas when the incident occurred, Kolton said. Adding that were shocked by what happened.
“This is terrible,” Pyle said.
