<p>October opened with tragedy in the french port city of Marseilles as two people were reportedly, were fatally stabbed Sunday morning at the Marseille-Saint-Charles station.<br />
The assailant was stopped when he was shot by soldiers of Operation Sentinel.<br />
Both victims were female and one had her throat slashed by the knife wielding alleged terrorist. The second victim also died of stab wounds.<br />
Police urged residents and travelers to avoid the area near the Saint Charles train station following Sunday&#8217;s attack, French television station <a href="http://www.bfmtv.com/police-justice/marseille-un-homme-abattu-gare-st-charles-apres-avoir-attaque-des-passants-au-couteau-1268165.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BFM TV reported</a>.<br />
The attacker, reportedly shouted &#8220;Allahu Akbar&#8221; [Arabic for God is great], as he carried out the attacks. He was &#8220;neutralized and shot down,&#8221; police sources said.<br />
Around 1:45 pm local time on Sunday afternoon, the man, armed with at least two knives, attacked passers-by at the station of Marseille-Saint-Charles (Bouches-du-Rhône). After killing the two female victims, the suspected terrorist rushed at the security officers at the station&#8217;s forecourt.<br />
They officers then opened fire, wounding him very seriously. He died a few minutes later of his wounds.</p>

<p>The Bouches-du-Rhône national police confirmed on Twitter that an operation was underway at the Marseille-Saint-Charles station and recommended &#8220;to avoid the sector&#8221;. SNCF traffic is also interrupted.<br />
French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb announced that he was <a href="http://www.bfmtv.com/politique/attaque-au-couteau-a-marseille-gerard-collomb-se-rend-immediatement-sur-place-1268221.html">going &#8220;immediately&#8221; to the spot</a> .</p>

<p>According to the first information gathered by the police, especially after watching the video-surveillance, the terrorist track is privileged. The anti-terrorism prosecutor&#8217;s office was seized of the investigation of flagrance, open for &#8220;murders in connection with a terrorist enterprise&#8221;, &#8220;attempted murder on a person holding public authority in connection with a terrorist enterprise&#8221; and &#8220;criminal association terrorist &#8220;.<br />
Sunday’s attack comes about weeks after four Boston College students were attacked with acid at the train station.<br />
The students – two of whom are from New York – weren’t seriously injured and urged compassion for their assailant, who authorities described as “disturbed.”</p>
