French security officers secure the suspect at the Marseille railway station after the stabbing incident Sunday
October opened with tragedy in the french port city of Marseilles as two people were reportedly, were fatally stabbed Sunday morning at the Marseille-Saint-Charles station.
The assailant was stopped when he was shot by soldiers of Operation Sentinel.
Both victims were female and one had her throat slashed by the knife wielding alleged terrorist. The second victim also died of stab wounds.
Police urged residents and travelers to avoid the area near the Saint Charles train station following Sunday’s attack, French television station BFM TV reported.
The attacker, reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” [Arabic for God is great], as he carried out the attacks. He was “neutralized and shot down,” police sources said.
Around 1:45 pm local time on Sunday afternoon, the man, armed with at least two knives, attacked passers-by at the station of Marseille-Saint-Charles (Bouches-du-Rhône). After killing the two female victims, the suspected terrorist rushed at the security officers at the station’s forecourt.
They officers then opened fire, wounding him very seriously. He died a few minutes later of his wounds.

The Bouches-du-Rhône national police confirmed on Twitter that an operation was underway at the Marseille-Saint-Charles station and recommended “to avoid the sector”. SNCF traffic is also interrupted.
French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb announced that he was going “immediately” to the spot .

According to the first information gathered by the police, especially after watching the video-surveillance, the terrorist track is privileged. The anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office was seized of the investigation of flagrance, open for “murders in connection with a terrorist enterprise”, “attempted murder on a person holding public authority in connection with a terrorist enterprise” and “criminal association terrorist “.
Sunday’s attack comes about weeks after four Boston College students were attacked with acid at the train station.
The students – two of whom are from New York – weren’t seriously injured and urged compassion for their assailant, who authorities described as “disturbed.”
