A Colorado teen accused of murder in the stabbing death of a young woman on Saturday compiled a ‘Hit List’ which had the victim’s sister topping the list. Makayla Brote’s younger sibling was was the first of many names on a recently discovered “kill list” written by the 15-year-old suspect, authorities said.
Police said the accused murderer, who has not been identified, used a hunting knife to kill Makayla Grote when she opened the door to her home on Nov. 18, Fox 31 reported.
After stabbing Grote, the teen allegedly chased her sister around the apartment, but she was able to escape by locking herself inside a bedroom.
One neighbor found Grote bleeding out near his door, bleeding to death and called 911, Moments later, he saw the suspect walking down the stairs with a knife in his hand. The suspect, who has not been identified, fled the scene before officers arrived, but was arrested hours later.
Prosecutors on Monday noted it the actual name on the list did not matter, and that anyone in the home could have been on the receiving end of the attack, according to the news station.
After killing Makayla Grote late Saturday night, the suspect was just a mile away from the third person on his list when he was arrested early Sunday morning.
The details about the kill list were revealed in a Boulder County courtroom on Monday. Police say they found the list while searching his bedroom.
According to the complaint affidavit, the suspect had knocked on the victim’s door at 11 a.m. Saturday asking for a jump for his car.
He allegedly returned a few hours later and forced himself inside the apartment.  Grote’s, younger sister who was showering a the time, managed to escape by locking her self inside of a bedroom in the apartment. But as Grote tried to flee,  the suspect stabbed her once in the head and once in the chest, police said.
A neighbor found Grote suffering from stab wounds to the chest and phoned the police. She was taken to Longmont United Hospital, where she later died.
Authorities arrested the  teen from Longmont several hours after the attack, and upon searching his bedroom, discovered the kill list. They also found Molotov cocktails there.
The suspect is known to the Grote family, police said, and he was previously arrested for assaulting his grandfather. In addition to that, police say his mother once called 911 on him and responding officers located Molotov cocktails in the home.

Officials first introduced the kill list into evidence in a Boulder court room Monday.
Grote’s father told Fox 31 his daughter was an aspiring NASCAR driver. The Colorado National Speedway said Grote was one of racing’s “brightest stars.”
“Behind the wheel of the car she built (and re-built) with her family, Makayla was respected by her fellow drivers and consistently placed in the top ten in both the Pure Stock and Super Stock Divisions.”
They also remembered her for her “kind and tender heart”as well as her “infectious and blindingly bright smile.”
Makayla Grote is a 2016 Green Mountain High School graduate. The teen murder suspect was once a student at the school as well, according to Green Mountain principal Colleen Owens.
The suspect is slated to return to court Wednesday morning, while prosecutors decide whether to charge him as an adult.
