A 23-year-old man from California was killed while riding as a passenger in his wife’s car on Tuesday after police say someone intentionally threw a boulder from an overpass in Pasadena that crashed through the windshield.
The deadly incident took place just before 9pm on Tuesday. Christopher ‘Cris’ Lopez was traveling west in his wife’s 2017 Toyota Corolla along 134 Freeway and passing under the Orange Grove Boulevard overpass when an identified person hurled a 30-to-35-pound rock at the vehicle below.
Cris Lopez had just learned his wife was pregnant shortly before he was struck by the heavy projectile, suffering fatal injuries.
21-year-old Guadalupe Gutierrez immediately rushed her husband to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than 40 minutes after the attack, reported KTLA.
His mother-in-law and a four-year-old girl also travelling in the car were unharmed.

According to the description of a GoFundMe campaign launched by a friend, the boulder shattered all the bones in Lopez’s chest and smashed his jaw.

23-year-old Cris is survived by his young widow Lupe and his daughter Jayleen. As of Thursday, about $3,100 has been raised in donations to help the family with the funeral expenses.
Investigators are now looking for information that could lead to the arrest of the culprit, who could be facing murder charges.
Lopez, who worked as a barista [right] leaves behind his young widow and their daughter.Friends of the victim took to Facebook on Thursday to pay tribute to the young husband and father, who was described as an ‘amazing man.’
There have been several similar incidents involving rock throwing in recent years.
