Slain rapper Jimmy Wopo is reportedly being investigated posthumously by Pittsburgh police in connection with two unsolved homicides.
Up-and-coming rapper Jimmy Wopo was killed in a drive-by shooting in Pittsburgh Monday. He was 21.
Wopo, whose real name is Travon Smart, was shot in the Pennsylvania city’s Middle Hill neighborhood at around 4 p.m., Pittsburgh police said. He died at the hospital, while another unidentified victim was in stable condition.
Wopo was fatally shot while riding in an SUV with another man, who was also injured in the gunfire. Wopo was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital where he later died. The other man went to the hospital in stable condition.
Police sources told local CBS affiliate KDKA that Wopo, was on their radar regarding two shootings, and that they are investigating his involvement.
“We are going to try to talk to witnesses who were afraid of him. We hope they will cooperate. We hope we can now clear a few cases, now that he’s dead,” one source told the outlet, with another adding that he was a “Hill District terror.”
