A former law enforcement officer from Maryland has pled guilty to federal charges that he paid two teenage girls for sex while he was employed as a police officer in the nation’s capital.
The former Washington D.C. metro cop had been indicted in August 2017 on charges including sex trafficking of minors.
Chukwuemeka Ekwonna, 29, of Glenn Dale, in PG County Tuesday pled guilty in Baltimore on two counts of sex trafficking of a minor.

The former officer faces a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison under his plea agreement with prosecutors. Ekwonna’s sentencing is scheduled for May 10.
U.S. Attorney Robert Hur’s office said in a statement that Ekwonna worked as a Metropolitan Police Department officer in Washington when he exchanged more than 250 text messages and social media messages with two girls, ages 14 and 15, and paid both for sex.

In April 2017, the former officer was arrested on a warrant by the Anne Arundel County Police and faced charges of armed robbery, firearm use in a felony crime of violence, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree sex offenses , reckless endangerment, handgun in a vehicle, and handgun on a person and prostitution.
WJLA reported that On Jan. 9, 2017, a 15-year-old girl communicated with Ekwonna through a social media app called “Tagged” and agreed to meet with him to have sex in exchange for money.

Authorities said the girl was receiving services from the Department of Social Services when she revealed that she met Ekwonna on the app.
Sexual activity occurred between Ekwonna and the teen in his car, and he gave her money for it. Moments later he pulled out a gun and demanded his money back.
Investigators said the teen gave Ekwonna the money back and left his car.
Ekwonna was an MPD officer for 14 months and was assigned to the Second District, according to police.
