On March 7, Burchard’s body was found beneath clothing in the trunk of a blue two-door 2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 coupe in the desert outside Las Vegas.
The Clark County coroner ruled the case a homicide, finding that Burchard was struck multiple times in the head with an unidentified object that left what police called a unique pattern.
Burchard also bore what police called defensive wounds.
Police say the car was registered to Turner and that all three suspects’ fingerprints were found inside the vehicle.

A card belonging to Pena from her bartending job at Caesar’s Palace was also found inside the car.
Police believe Burchard died sometime after midday March 3. An autopsy revealed he was bludgeoned to death with an unknown item that left distinctive mark.
Turner was arrested two weeks later on March 21, authorities arrested Turner in Stockton on suspicion of killing Burchard. At the time of the arrest, Turner was with her child and her boyfriend Kennison, who wasn’t sought as a suspect.
A warrant was issued however, April 5 for Kennison and Pena after investigators uncovered new evidence, including phone records and witness statements.

Burchard had paid March’s rent for Turner’s split-level, four-bedroom home, investigators said.

During a visit to Vegas, Burchard stayed with Turner at the home, which she shared with Kennison, Pena and at least one other man. That other man, whose name is redacted, decided to move out following an argument March 2.
A woman had also shown up at the home inebriated and got into an argument with Turner. Burchard intervened and took the woman on a drive around the block.
Turner and Burchard had an intimate relationship, and while out on the drive with Burchard March 2, Turner worried the woman might tell Burchard about Kennison.
A witness told detectives that Kennison also made violent statements at the time, shoving or punching one man while Burchard was briefly away.
A witness who knew Turner for two years told detectives that Turner started hanging around Kennison and his friends, which appeared to change her as a person.

Turner’s boyfriend, 27-year-old Jon Logan Kennison, remains at large. He’s been charged along with Turner and Pena with murder and conspiracy to murder

The warrant states that detectives found Pena’s card for her job bartending at Caesars Palace in the Mercedes-Benz. Her prescription medication was also found at Turner’s home, where she lived.
Pena and Turner who appear to be close friends. Between February 8 and March 8, Turner communicated over the phone with Pena more than with Kennison, who had just moved in, police said.
After Burchard’s death, phone records and other evidence show “Turner, Pena and Kennison abandoned the home, despite March’s rent being paid” by Burchard.
They trio stayed briefly at the Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino before permanently turning off their phones.
Turner and Kennison fled the state, but a California fugitive team arrested Turner March 21 in Stockton while she was with Kennison and her young child.

Kennison did not show for a scheduled appointment with detectives when they arrived from Las Vegas. He has not shown up for work after March 6 and is believed to have fled Nevada as well.
Pena had rented a room at the Rio All-Suites from March 4 until March 9, when housekeeping personnel discovered her property was in the room but she was not. Suspected to have skipped on March 8, hotel security said.

Pena’s employers at Caesar’s Palace told cops that she never showed up for work after March 6, and never called in to explain her absence.
When police searched her possessions, they found five pieces of paper bearing Burchard’s handwriting, Turner’s Nevada driver’s license and several of Pena’s prescription bottles.
Investigators are convinced Burchard was attacked in Turner’s Vegas rental sometime after midday on March 3, after speaking to a man Turner offered  $20 to clean up red stains March 4 in the home, according to the warrant. She also tried to convince a departing roommate who was absent at the time to repair a door that had been broken in half and torn off the hinges.

The cleaner told police he thought the red stains were wine, not blood.
Despite the cleaning,  “apparent blood”  stains was found throughout the northwest upstairs bedroom, including on “a mattress, both bed frames, the north wall, a small table and on a DirecTV receiver,” according to the warrant.
They also found several items with Kennison’s name in Turner’s bedroom.
The handyman did not believe Turner’s explanation that they had busted in the door because someone had locked themselves in the room, which had bunk beds.
The “[cleaner], believed the damage to the door and the door frame was the likely result of a fight.
“[He] saw Pena scrubbing an apparent red stain on the floor with a bottle of pet stain remover,” police said.
That cleaner was never paid.
