Authorities in Florida have launched a murder investigation into the death of a missing woman from Long Island, New York.
The remains of Jenna Jacobsen were found last week in the Lantana area of Florida. Jacobsen, 20, of East Islip, NY, was last seen on April 25 after she traveled to Broward County, Florida to check into a substance abuse facility, her father told WPTV.
When the rehab center suddenly shut down, Jacobsen decided to transfer to another in West Palm Beach, but she never made it there, according to her family.
“I came down here to find my daughter and I did — however, we found her deceased,” her father, Chris Jacobsen, told the news station.
Describing his daughter, “She was an extremely kind, loving young woman,” said Chris Jacobsen on Monday. “She had hopes and dreams and was aspiring to go to college and work in the veterinarian field.”
The medical examiner confirmed Monday that the bones discovered last week in the Lantana area belonged to the missing woman.
Jacobsen’s cause of death is unknown, but the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is treating her case as a homicide, it said.“Please bring them to justice so she can rest easy and we can have closure on this,” her dad said. “To be victimized like this is just beyond words that I can explain.”
