A 5-year-old boy was killed in Alabama over the weekend when two family members shot at each other and ended up striking the child, authorities said.
The shooters, whose names and relationship to the victim have yet to be released, were arguing outside a Birmingham apartment complex Saturday afternoon when both fired their guns, police told local news outlets on Sunday.
Birmingham police said two family members were engaged in an altercation. Both fired weapons at each other and the boy was struck. The shooters, sources say were both women, were engaged in an argument when one neighbor said she heard multiple shots fired and then saw a man sitting on the ground cradling the little boy.
At least one of the bullets fatally struck Ta’Narius “TJ” Moore Jr., a beloved kindergartner who hours earlier had been named an All-Star player in a local youth football league.
He boy was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities said several people have been detained and an investigation is underway.

Birmingham police Deputy Chief Scott Praytor said multiple people have been detained and they were still looking for others, including witnesses who may have fled following the gunfire.
The tragedy comes two years after the victim’s father was shot to death as a result of a long-standing feud with another man, AL.com reported.
Heartbroken family members took to Facebook over the weekend to post tributes and photos of TJ.
“I thought we had more time than this nephew,” Facebook user Joshula Jones wrote. “5 years old this can’t be real.”
“I’m sorry TJ,” the child’s stepfather, Carlos Walker, wrote. “(You) will forever live through me.”
