A south Carolina mother whose five children were all murdered by their father, her estranged husband, has stunned the courtroom by asking the jury to spare her the killer’s life after his lawyers called a social worker to testify about his chaotic upbringing.
Computer technician Timothy Jones Jr. has been convicted of five counts of murder for slaughtering his five children in Lexington, South Carolina back in 2014.
Jones reportedly drove around the country for nine days with the decomposing bodies wrapped in plastic and stashed in his SUV, before finally dumping the woods, in Alabama.
The jury who found him guilty of slaying his children will now decide if he will face life in prison or the death penalty.
In a surprise move, the defense called his ex-wife Amber Kyzer to the witness stand on Tuesday pleading for a more lenient sentence.
‘He did not show my children any mercy by any means. But my kids loved him and if I’m speaking on behalf of my kids and not myself, that’s what I have to say,’ Kyzer told the jury. Adding, ‘I hear what my kids went through and what they endured. And as a mother, if I could personally rip his face off I would. That’s the mom in me. That’s the mama bear.’

When the social worker began to testify about a stillborn infant birthed by Jones’ mother that the family said appeared to be part of a self-induced abortion attempt. However, Circuit Judge Eugene Griffith stopped her before she could give details.
Griffith frequently told Grey ‘move along’ or ‘keep moving’ when she tried to go into details about Jones’ family.
Tuesday marked the fourth week of testimony in Jones’ trial.
Jones’ lawyers are trying to show he struggled from un-diagnosed mental illness and cracked when he became a single father of five after his marriage failed.
