The search continues for a 23-year-old University of Utah student who stopped talking with family not long after she arrived at Salt Lake City International Airport almost on June 17.
Mackenzie Lueck’s parents reported her missing Thursday afternoon, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. – She reportedly texted her parents not long after midnight Monday when she arrived at the airport from California just prior to getting a Lyft ride.
The college student is still missing nearly a week after her family last heard from her, and her relatives are pleading for answers.
MacKenzie Lueck, a 23-year-old senior at the University of Utah, texted her parents around 1 a.m. on June 17, her family said in a statement released Saturday. She had just arrived at Salt Lake City International Airport on a flight from Los Angeles, where she attended her grandmother’s funeral.
She then took a Lyft from the airport to an address in North Salt Lake City, the last place she was seen, police said in a statement released Saturday.
Sunday, Salt Lake police stated: “SLCPD is still actively looking for MacKenzie Lueck. Detectives have been working throughout the weekend & will continue to follow any/all leads. We are aware of info being shared by her friends & others about this case.
We are working diligently to maintain the integrity of this case and ask that anyone with information on MacKenzie or her possible location please contact us. 801-799-3000 #seesomethingsaysomething“
Police released this statement on the missing Utah student
Lueck let her parents know that she landed safely and was going to take a Lyft home. She wasn’t heard from again. The Salt Lake City Police Department confirmed that she was dropped off at her destination in North Salt Lake in the early morning hours. Her roommates, however, said she never made it inside.
Police have talked to the ride-hailing service and to the driver who picked Lueck up at the airport.
The investigation “has not discovered any information that would lead us to believe that Mackenzie has been harmed or is in danger at this time,” police said last week.
Her family and friends have requested Facebook postings from individuals with updates in search efforts.
The police statement added, though, that “detectives are concerned for Mackenzie’s welfare” and ask anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact Salt Lake City Police at 801-799-3000 and reference case No. 19-111129.
