In a video released by prosecutors, Maxim Gareyev confessed to stabbing Ekaterina Karaglanova, 24, “at least five times in the neck and chest”.
The circumstances of the confession, and whether the suspect had a lawyer present, are not clear from the video.
Ekatrina Karaglanova had a large Instagram following and was a qualified doctor.
Her body was discovered by her parents and landlord on Friday in a suitcase in the hallway of her apartment building in Moscow, police said.
The unexpected confession was made in the Nikulinsky court by Maksim Gareev, who is charged with the savage murder of 24-year-old model and instablogger Karaglanova Yekaterina in the Ramenki district of Moscow last week.
Gareev, claimed he was pushed to desperation by constant disappointments on the love front, serious financial failures, as well as, struggles with mental health issues.

The striking Russian Instagram influencer was found dead with her throat slit inside a suitcase in her Moscow apartment just days ahead of her 25th birthday, according to a report.
Ekaterina Karaglanova, who boasted more than 87,000 Instagram followers, was found dead Friday in her rented apartment after relatives told police they had not heard from her in several days, Moscow newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets reported.
The body of Karaglanova, who also recently completed medical school, was found inside a large suitcase with stab wounds to her neck and chest while wearing only lace garters, the newspaper reports.
Detectives in Moscow found no signs of a struggle inside Karaglanova’s apartment and have not located the weapon believed to have been used in the murder.

Investigators said Karaglanova’s ex-boyfriend was spotted on security cameras visiting her apartment for several hours in the days leading up to her disappearance, Moskovsky Komsomolets reported.

Before his dramatic confession authorities were looking into whether Gareyev her former boyfriend, flew into a jealous rage and fatally attacked the Russian beauty whose followers have compared her to Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn.
Karaglanova’s final Instagram post on July 22 showed her in a revealing lace outfit while enjoying a glass of wine in Corfu, an island off Greece’s northwestern coast.
“Generally, to be honest, I do not like a long rest,” she wrote. “I travel often, but in each country I spend no more than 3-5 days.”
Karaglanova, who specialized in dermatology, also ran a popular travel blog that had thousands of subscribers.
