Man of evil: Rev. Victor Mateo is accused of killing of his estranged wife Noelia Mateo on Ellsworth Ave. in Throggs Neck in the Bronx on Oct. 3
A ‘man of God’ has been charged with the savage, depraved murder of his wife with a machete when he failed to kill her by running her down with her car, authorities said Tuesday.
Victor Mateo is accused of hacking to death Noelia Mateo, 58, in front of her two grandchildren outside her Ellsworth Ave. home in Throggs Neck around 7 a.m. on Oct. 3.
Mateo, 63, the pastor of the Christian Congregation The Redeemer Church in the Bronx, was lying in wait for his wife and tried to mow her down, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
When Mateo failed, he jumped into his estranged wife’s car and drove over her as 11-year-old grandson and her granddaughter, 9, watched in horror, prosecutors said.
After that, the frenzied man whipped out a machete and hacked his ex-wife to death on the sidewalk, cops said.
Mateo took off in Noelia’s car but was arrested a week later in Hazelton, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 10, authorities said.
He is held in Pennsylvania pending extradition and returned to the city Tuesday.

As Noelia Mateo was getting into her car, her ex-husband man slammed his vehicle into hers and crashed into a parked car, sending the victim flying, witnesses recounted
“The defendant cruelly attacked his wife, from whom he had been estranged for approximately a month, in front her two young grandchildren,” said Bronx DA Darcel Clark. “We will pursue justice for the victim, as well as her family members who have been deeply traumatized by the terrible attack.”
Mateo, who lives in Yonkers, Westchester County, is charged with murder, manslaughter, acting in a manner to hurt a child and illegal weapons possession.
He was arraigned in the Bronx Tuesday and remanded to jail.
