Three adults were killed in an apparent murder-suicide on Christmas Eve while four young children were inside the Florida home.
Police responded to this Lakeland, Florida, home on Christmas Eve and found three adults dead from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide, with four kids in the house. The children were safely removed from the home in Lakeland after the shooting Tuesday night, Lakeland Police Capt. Ed Cain said.
Police said Leighton Josephs, 30, armed himself with a gun and entered a home on Atlanta Avenue and shot two people inside before turning the gun on himself.
Police would only identify the victims as a 30-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man. Investigators suspect they both knew Josephs, but didn’t’ say how.
According to police, four children, all under the age of 10, were at the home when the shooting occurred, but none was injured.
Detectives believe the victims and Josephs knew one another.
Three adult members of one family were discovered dead after the incident in the 3000 block of Atlanta Avenue in Lakeland, Fla., at around 5.30pm on Dec. 24
None of the children were injured and they were safely removed from the home. All four of the children are believed to be younger than 10 years old, Capt. Cain said.
‘It’s a very tragic situation on Christmas Eve that’s going to impact a lot of families,’ Cain said.
The incident began unfolding at around 5.30pm when police received a 911 call and responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Atlanta Avenue in Lakeland.
The responding officers entered the home and found the three adult residents dead from gunshot wounds.
Detectives believe the victims and Josephs knew one another.

The four children, who were unharmed, were taken to the Lakeland police station, reported WFLA.
Capt Cain later said they were in ‘safe hands,’ but he would not elaborate on whether the children are staying with relatives, or whether they are in state custody.
