</span>The children were safely removed from the home in Lakeland after the shooting Tuesday night, Lakeland Police Capt. Ed Cain said.<br />
Police said Leighton Josephs, 30, armed himself with a gun and entered a home on Atlanta Avenue and shot two people inside before turning the gun on himself.<br />
Police would only identify the victims as a 30-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man. Investigators suspect they both knew Josephs, but didn’t’ say how.<br />
According to police, four children, all under the age of 10, were at the home when the shooting occurred, but none was injured.<br />
Detectives believe the victims and Josephs knew one another.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">&#8216;It&#8217;s a very tragic situation on Christmas Eve that&#8217;s going to impact a lot of families,&#8217; Cain said.<br />
The incident began unfolding at around 5.30pm when police received a 911 call and responded to a residence in the 3000 block of Atlanta Avenue in Lakeland.<br />
The responding officers entered the home and found the three adult residents dead from gunshot wounds.<br />
Detectives believe the victims and Josephs knew one another.</p>

<p class="mol-para-with-font">The four children, who were unharmed, were taken to the Lakeland police station, reported <a class="class" href="https://www.wfla.com/news/polk-county/police-3-adults-dead-in-lakeland-murder-suicide-4-children-safe/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">WFLA</a>.<br />
Capt Cain later said they were in &#8216;safe hands,&#8217; but he would not elaborate on whether the children are staying with relatives, or whether they are in state custody.</p>
