Five relatives were shot dead in a tragic murder-suicide as the family gathered at their mother’s Long Island home following her funeral. The gunman who killed 5 in murder-suicide at the Long Island home was a son distraught over mother’s death, one neighbor said.
Police believe that Joseph DeLucia Jr., who lived in the house with his mother, killed his three siblings and a niece before shooting himself in the front yard of the Nassau County property over a dispute about the sale of the home according to local law enforcement.
Police identified the deceased as Joseph’s siblings Joanne Kearns, 69, of Tampa, Florida and Frank DeLucia, 64, of Durham, North Carolina. Others killed were Tina Hammond, 64, and her daughter Victoria Hammond, 30, both of East Patchogue, Long Island.

Police say they responded to a call about shots fired in the quiet cul-de-sac on Wyoming Court in Syosset where they found a man suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the front lawn just before noon on Sunday.
Officers then found another four victims dead inside the tiny blue home – which they were planning to sell following their mother’s death last week.
The property records show the home most recently belonged to 95-year-old Theresa Martha DeLucia. The beloved nurse who spent three decades working at a local hospital, was buried on Friday.

Officers found a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the front lawn of this Syosset, New York home on Sunday – and four other victims inside.

‘The mom just died, and they were selling the house,’ real estate agent Mary Macaluso, said.
She noted she was supposed to be meeting relatives at the home at around noon – but by the time she arrived, authorities had already closed the street.
‘The kids were all here for the funeral, and they asked me to come look at the house,’ Macaluso said, explaining that one of DeLucia’s children asked her to meet with the family so they would know what to do before listing the home, which is estimated to be worth nearly $900,000 on Zillow.
The family wanted the assessment done quickly because two of the family members came up from Florida for the funeral, and were headed back soon, she noted.

The property had not yet been listed for sale – but real estate website Zillow estimated its value at nearly $900,000. The family gathered after the funeral on Friday to discuss the sale with the real estate agent

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said officers only learned after the shooting that neighbors were concerned DeLucia Jr. might harm himself or others as he had been emotional and distraught following his mother’s death.
The suspect, an auto mechanic, had lived in the house his entire life, and neighbors say losing the home was just too unbearable for him.
Other family members reportedly, had tried to convince DeLucia Jr that he would be provided for following his mother’s death, but that he would have to move out of her home.
Apparently distraught and feeling left out as he had nowhere to go, Joe DeLucia Jr. reportedly, fired 12 rounds from a shotgun, killing the others.
He then stepped out to the front lawn and shot himself.
All five were pronounced dead at the scene.
‘I didn’t think that he’d take his whole family, his siblings,’ one neighbor said.
‘I thought maybe he was distraught and he did this to himself only’.
