A housewife allegedly killed two of her children on Saturday in Diso, a village in Kano one of the states in the northern part Nigeria.
Hauwa Habibu, 26, launched the fatal knife attack and double-homicide of her son Yusuf, five and his three-year-old sister Zahra’u allegedly, in jealous rage after her husband married a second wife.
Habibu’s niece Aisha, 10, who lives with the couple was injured in her murderous machete rampage, but is expected to survive
The suspect fled the home after her gruesome crime but has been arrested after 24 hours on the run. The alleged murder weapon has also been recovered.

The Kano State Police command paraded the suspect on Sunday holding the alleged murder weapon, a bloody machete.
Authorities said Habibu has confessed that she locked up their house, before attacking the three children with a machete and a metal pestle , causing severe injuries on different parts of their bodies.
Timely medical intervention saved Aisha, the killer’s 10-year niece who lived to tell investigators the horrific tale. The younger children were not so lucky.
The family are Muslims from Gwale Local Government area of Kano state. Kano like most of the states in the northern part of the country, are majority Muslim, which permits polygamy. Polygamous marriages are quite common in that part of Nigeria

The murders happened inside the family home on Saturday morning, when the children’s dad had gone to his second wife’s place to spend some time.
The children’s uncle, Sadiq Haruna Aminu, who confirmed that their mother was the suspect in the killings. His sister-in-law he said, had been seething with jealousy rage since his brother married another wife.

Sadiq revealed that his older brother got married to his new wife two months earlier: “The incident happened when the husband was away and in his new wife’s place”, Sadiq said.
“His eldest wife, Hauwa ‘called him on phone this morning that all was not well in their house only for him to return to the house and meet the lifeless bodies of the children in the pool of blood. She carried out the atrocities and ran away from the house”, he said.
“She beat the children and used knife to cut them. Her sister’s [10-year-old] daughter who was living with them was another victim but she survived with cuts on her hand and she is the witness when the incident happened. We don’t know her whereabouts at the moment because we spoke with security operatives. We learnt she went to her parent’s house,” Sadiq added.
The ward head of Diso, Malam Ahmad Bello who expressed shock over the incident. He condemned the murders, adding ” we have taken the matter to court instead of taking the laws into our hands.
