A Nebraska woman who posed as the love rival she had already murdered spent four years sending hundreds of messages to the victim’s family and ex-boyfriend before the truth in the twisted case was uncovered.
Shanna Golyar, 45, is currently serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in the slaying of 37-year-old Cari Farver who was last seen in Ohama back in 2012.

In an ABC 20/20 special to air tonight, Farver’s mother Nancy Raney and the victim’s ex-boyfriend Dave Kroupa opened up about receiving those messages and the harassment they endured before authorities eventually cracked the bizarre love triangle case.
Authorities say Golyar murdered the victim after realizing she’d embarked on a relationship with 36-year-old Kroupa, a man she was obsessed with and had been romantically involved, off and on, for several months.
Golyar went on to stalk Kroupa for several years and tormented Farver’s family. All the while impersonating the the victim. 
Dave Kroupa had only dated Farver for two weeks before receiving a breakup text from her phone number.

‘I would regularly receive 60 plus texts, 100 emails a day. It was not uncommon. As far as phone calls, hundreds of hundreds. I’d changed my phone so many times, it was ridiculous,’ Kroupa told 20/20.
‘On one specific occasion I was sitting in my lazy boy with my feet up, watching TV, trying to relax. I get a text saying “I see you, you’re sitting in your chair with your feet propped up wearing a blue shirt”. Those things were true.’
One message read: ‘I hate you so much that I want to drive a knife in your heart’.
Another read: ‘I will destroy your life and take your happiness’. 
In a bid to throw authorities off, Golyar went as far as sending threatening messages and emails about herself that were seemingly from Farver.

An email was also sent directly to Golyar from Farver’s account that read: ‘If you don’t keep your hands or lips off my man I will hurt you’

In one email sent from Farver’s account to Kroupa that referenced Golyar, it read: ‘She’s a fat cow… She looks like she lost her puppy maybe she’ll do us all a favor and kill herself lol.’
An email was also sent directly to Golyar from Farver’s account that read: ‘If you don’t keep your hands or lips off my man I will hurt you.’
Golyar also vandalized her own property, set fire to her residence and shot herself in the leg. 
Farver’s mother Nancy Raney said she also received dozens of messages that were seemingly from her missing daughter. She realized something was wrong after Farver failed to show for her son’s 15th birthday and her own father’s funeral. 
‘When I’d get text messages, I’d say please call me, I just need to hear your voice,’ she said. 
‘The texts got mean at one point too, saying that I wasn’t a good mother, that I was controlling.’

Authorities became suspicious of Golyar after discovering major inconsistencies in her story. They eventually built a case against her that collected data from cellphones and IP addresses that linked Golyar to Farver’s supposed messages. 
Police also found Golyar in possession of two photos of body parts that showed tattoos identical to those Farver had. 
Farver’s body was never found but prosecutors believe the murder happened at an Omaha apartment on November 13, 2012. 
Investigators didn’t find a murder weapon or any witnesses.
Much of the case was based on circumstantial evidence tying Golyar to Farver, including her fingerprints on a pack of gum in her love rival’s car and a photo taken by Golyar allegedly showing Farver’s decomposing foot.

At her 2017 murder trial, Chief Deputy Douglas County Attorney Brenda Beadle called it ‘one of the most calculated and bizarre cases I’ve ever seen’ in her more than 20 years working as a prosecutor.
