R&B singer Joann Marie Slater, aka Ann Marie, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, in the shooting of a friend inside an Atlanta hotel room

R&B singer Ann Marie has been jailed on felony charges after a childhood friend was shot in the head at a Georgia hotel last week, a near-fatal shooting that she claims was an accident.
The Chicago-based singer and songwriter has been accused of aggravated assault after a man was shot in the head in a Buckhead hotel Tuesday evening, authorities said.
The 25-year-old musician, born Joann Marie Slater, was arrested Dec. 1 in Atlanta and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Fulton County jail records show.
Ann Marie told police that the gun “fell off of a table in the hotel room which caused the gun to go off” and hit the man, according to a police report obtained by local news outlets on Monday.
Responding officers arrived at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta around 6:25 p.m. that night to find Slater standing beside the bed while screaming and crying hysterically.
Cops came across a large pool of blood at the entrance of room 614.
Inside, they found 24-year-old Jonathan Wright lying at the foot of the bed with a gunshot wound to his forehead, according to an incident report.
Police noted however, that although Ann Marie seemed upset, there were no visible tears from her eyes, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Ann Marie has been arrested twice in Georgia before the shooting incident, according to online arrest records

Officers said Wright was “somewhat responsive,” but he was having trouble staying conscious due to the loss of a lot of blood.
Investigators later found two shell casings in the room, raising more questions about Slater’s accident theory.
“A projectile was also found by the bathroom door on the carpet and one in the bathroom tub,” police said. “There was one bullet hole in the door jam, and also one in the cabinet top right corner in the bathroom.”
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, but his condition remains unclear.
Slater reportedly told cops that the pair “grew up” together in Chicago.
The singer is known for her 2018 hit “Secret,” which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart last year.
It is believed that though the singer told detectives that the whole thing was an accident. She said the gun fell off a table in the room, and it discharged, striking him in the head. Ultimately, police were skeptical about her story, because she is currently in a relationship, and Wright whom was shot is being described as her “side dude.”
Online reports suggest that Anne Marie shot Wright – her “side dude” – because she had found out that he had been cheating on her.
