A man from Deland, Florida man who was charged with murder over the weekend is accused of killing a man from Daytona Beach after meeting him through a dating app, authorities said Sunday. The sheriff said the suspect
“Michael Harris has a history of posing as a gay prostitute and blackmailing and robbing the victims, and in this case, murdering the victim,”
The victim, identified as 63-year-old Bobby Scott, had been reported missing by his husband on Jan. 18 after he left Jan. 17 for the gym and did not return home, the same day he and Harris had agreed to meet up, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Last Wednesday, when the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office publicly asked for help to find Scott, they said they believed he left his home in Daytona Beach on Jan. 17 around 11:30 a.m. and headed to DeLand to meet someone.
Scott was murdered, Volusia County sheriff’s detectives said. Investigators learned that he’d had traveled to DeLand to meet Harris for sex.

According to investigators’ findings, Scott met Harris on a dating app on Sunday, the day he disappeared, around 8:30 a.m. and agreed to meet Harris later in the afternoon.
Scott’s husband, who said he has been in a relationship with Scott since 2013, said they were happily married, but were in an open relationship where they could date other men outside the marriage.
Scott was never heard from again and his cellphone was found abandoned in Deland.

Michael Harris Jr., 20, was first connected to the crime when detectives searching for a missing Daytona Beach man found the victim’s car with the suspect in the nearby city of Deland. Authorities then recovered bloody fingerprints in the vehicle linking Harris to the murder.
When he was questioned by detectives on Sunday, two days after Scott went missing, Harris reportedly said the victim had loaned him the car but had not contacted him since. Scott’s husband however, contradicted that account, his partner “never loaned his vehicle to anyone,” the man said.
Scott’s body was finally found on Sunday, a week after he went missing and a day after Harris’ arrest. Authorities have not released the cause of death or any other details about the case as the investigation is still active.
Harris was charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and was being held at the Volusia County Jail.
