<p>The parents of missing six-year-old, Isabella &#8216;Ariel&#8217; Kalua, have been charged with her murder. She was reported missing on September 13, but police say she&#8217;d been dead for a month at the time. <br>The cause of death is unclear and her body has not been found. <br> Lehua Kalua, 45, and her husband 52-year-old Isaac Sonny Kalua from Honolulu, Hawaiian are charged with murdering their six-year-old adopted daughter a month in August, a month before they reported her missing on September 13, claiming she &#8216;wandered off&#8217; in the middle of the night. <br>However, have announced that the couple killed Ariel a month earlier, sometime in mid-August, then pretended she had vanished. </p>

<p>Her body has not been found but police and the FBI are searching the family&#8217;s home and the Navy shipyard at Pearl Harbor where the father works. <br>Ariel was removed from her biological family when she was one. The Kaluas adopted her from the foster system two years ago. <br>On September 13, the adoptive parent told police that their six-year-old daughter left their home in the middle of the night and that she often slept outside. Contradicting the report, police say child had been dead for a month, but they have not revealed what evidence they have that points to that conclusion. <br>It&#8217;s unclear how Ariel died or what kind of evidence police have against the pair, but detectives say they are confident the evidence points &#8216;to them and no one else&#8217;. <br>The couple have three other daughters who are now in the custody of the authorities. <br>It&#8217;s unclear if those children are also adopted, or if they are the couple&#8217;s biological kids. <br></p>

<p>The Kaluas told police on September 13 that their six-year-old daughter left their home in the middle of the night and that she often slept outside. <br>Police say that was a lie and that the girl had been dead for a month, but they have not revealed what evidence they have that points to that conclusion. <br>It&#8217;s unclear how Ariel died or what kind of evidence police have against the pair, but detectives say they are confident the evidence points &#8216;to them and no one else&#8217;. <br>The couple have other daughters who are now in the custody of the authorities. <p>She was adopted by the couple just two years ago out of foster care. In the two years since she has lived with the couple, she has suffered two serious injuries but in both cases, the Department of Child Services ruled no foul play had taken place, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" href="https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2021/09/21/missing-6-year-old-had-serious-injuries-investigated-by-state-2019-2020/">Hawaii News Now</a> reports.<br>In October 2019, she suffered a broken finger which the couple claimed came from her slamming her hand in a door. Four months later, she returned to the hospital with a broken leg, which her parents said was from a trampoline injury. </p>

<p>In both cases, a panel of experts determined there was no maltreatment. <br>Child advocates question those findings. For Stephen Lane, a longtime foster parent and child advocate, said the incidents draw suspicion: “There’s no reasonable explanation why a parent, foster adoptive or natural would delay the treatment or reporting of this kind of an injury,” Lane said. <br>Isabella Kalua was reported missing on Sept. 13 at about 6:30 am. <br>That afternoon, Child Welfare Services removed her three siblings from the home. </p>

<p>The removal action of the CWS was endorsed by Randall Rosenberg, an attorney who often represents families of children in the foster system. Rosenberg agrees with the decision to take the siblings out of the home quickly “because there’s a safety issue and the explanation of the child’s disappearance is not as satisfactory as we’d want.” <br>Lane previously said Isabella’s placement in the home in the first place raised red flags. <br>The man police identify as Kalua’s adoptive father, Isaac Kalua III, has a criminal past. <br>According to court records, he was convicted 20 years ago on three counts of terroristic threatening and assault. He was sentenced to 5 years probation. <br>According to Lane, the children should never have been placed in the home with the convict. <br>“It’s a violation of the Department of Human Services’ foster home parent’s guidelines,” he said. </p>

<p>The Isabella&#8217;s biological aunts still live on the island and have been organizing community searches for her. <br>&#8216;At the onset there was a lot of questions Some things just weren&#8217;t adding up for us in the last week to ten days some evidence has come to light,&#8217; said Honolulu Police Department Interim Chief Rade Vanic at a press conference on Tuesday. <br>The girl&#8217;s biological aunts had been campaigning on Facebook and in the community for police to do more to question the adoptive parents sooner. </p>

<p>They said they were convinced all along that the couple had something to do with her disappearance. <br>The adoptive parents, Lehua Kalua and Isaac Sonny Kalua, are being held in custody without bond. <br>Child Welfare Services has not commented yet on their arrests. </p>
