The teen had been reported missing from her home in late July where she had been living with her biological mother Rebecca Ruud, 39, and her mom’s boyfriend.
The human remains were discovered on August 4 when police started searching Ruud’s 81-acre farm property.
Investigators found bone fragments, two intact finger bones, a large vertebra bone and several items that appeared to be teeth when they sifted through ash in a burn pit on the property.
‘From information I received (on Monday) from forensic specialists, and evidence that was obtained, the remains that were recovered are those of 16-year-old Savannah Leckie, of Longrun,’ Ozark County Sheriff Darrin Reed told the Star Tribune.

The teenager went to live with her biological mother in Missouri 11 months ago after reportedly not getting along with her adoptive mom’s new boyfriend.
Savannah was reported missing from the home by Ruud on July 20.
Ruud told police Savannah was home when she went to bed the night before but had disappeared by the time she woke. She said she searched the property herself before contacting authorities.
Human bone fragments and teeth were found in a field about 400 yards from the home on Aug. 4, which was the day Ruud and her husband got married. A forensic analysis identified the remains as Savannah’s.

Savannah, who was described in affidavits for search warrants as having high-functioning autism, grew up with her adoptive mother, Tamile Leckie-Montague, in the Twin Cities
Her adoptive mother, Tamile Leckie-Montague, asked Rebecca Ruud last November to take the teen because the girl couldn’t get along with her new boyfriend. Ruud agreed and was given power of attorney. After the girl moved to Missouri, she was home schooled and had “almost no social contacts,” according to an affidavit.
Ruud’s ex-boyfriend, Buddy Smart, told investigators he had seen her discipline Savannah by “forcing her to crawl through a hog pen” and forcing her to bathe in a pond, the affidavit states.
Ruud who told investigators she relinquished the girl for adoption when she was born, acknowledged the harsh treatment she meted out to the teen. Adding that when Savannah cut her arm “in a suicidal gesture,” she forced the girl to scrub the wound daily with alcohol and salt as punishment.

Rebecca Ruud started a GoFundMe page to raise money for a lawyer after revealing she was a suspect in her daughter’s disappearance. The page has since been taken down.

Married couples don’t have to testify against each other but it isn’t always the case if the victim is under the age of 18, according to the sheriff.
Ruud is charged with first-degree murder and alternative counts of abuse of a child resulting in death, second-degree murder and felony murder.
She is also charged with tampering with physical evidence and abandoning a corpse,
Savannah’s adoptive father David Leckie posted a tribute to his daughter on August 9 revealing news of her death.
‘My daughter Savannah has passed away in Missouri. I would like to thank everyone that has prayed for her and our family. My Faith in God will get us through this and I will forever miss.my sweet girl,’ he wrote.
