A married high school music teacher was arrested on Monday for a sexual relationship with a female student after her irate husband alerted administrators.
A Pennsylvania district judge on Friday issued a warrant for the arrest of Olivia Lois Ortz of Hermitage, who is accused of having an inappropriate physical romantic relationship with a 17-year-old female student while Ortz was the Wilmington High School choral teacher.
Ortz, 26, was taken into custody Monday and hit with two counts of sexual activity with a 17-year-old student at Wilmington Area High School.
The affair came to light after photographer Cody Ortz found incriminating messages on his wife’s iPad after coming home from a recent trip to Florida. The cuckold husband who had previously done freelance work for the school’s music department, told the principal.
Olivia Ortz was suspended on May 9 and a warrant was issued for her arrest on Friday. However, after declining the option of turning herself in immediately, she went ahead to sing at a local concert on Sunday before finally surrendering to police on Monday.
The sexual misconduct charges against Ortz come as Jonathan Priano, her predecessor as the school’s music director, is facing similar charges of sexual misconduct with students.
Priano, 37, allegedly had an affinity for tickling the feet of coeds and forming inappropriately close relationships with them, according to reports. His criminal case is pending.
Acting on tips from Cody Ortz investigators found more than 100 messages between the music teacher and her female student using Spotify’s chat function. The pair allegedly had a code word in case their nature of their relationship was ever questioned.
In interviews with police, the student admitted had gone to the Ortz family home when the teacher’s husband was away. She also admitted that they had sex on several occasions.
According to the WTAE report, the student said she returned to the home even after her lover’s husband discovered their relationship to offer the teacher comfort.
After executing a conclusive search warrant The teen and her parents were again interviewed on May 5. That was when the teen defiantly told them that the pair were still communicating despite looming criminal charges for Ortz and that they are in love, according to the police report.
Ortz is being held in the Lawrence County lockup on $150,000 bond and her next hearing is set for May 25.
Priano, who faces 10 counts of sexual assault and two counts of unlawful contact with minors, had a pretrial hearing set for June.
