<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A murder convict who broke out of a Pennsylvania jail it is believed, is the figure spotted on grainy surveillance footage on Saturday morning, while on the run from police after escaping from prison two days <br>Danelo Susa Cavalcante, 34, who was recently convicted and sentenced to life in prison for fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in front of her two young children, in 2021, was found to have fled from the Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township, Pennsylvania, on Thursday morning.<br>Law enforcement believe they&#8217;re closing in on him after he appeared to be seen on residential surveillance cameras at around 1:43am Saturday morning on Route 52 in Pocopson. <br>The figure holding what appears to be a backpack was walking around a wooded area, before he emerges from behind a small tree, less than two miles from the jail from which he broke out.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just two hours earlier, at 11:30pm Friday night, an attempted burglary was reported within the same town which has just 5,000 residents. Witnesses saw someone fitting Cavalcante&#8217;s description in the area, but authorities have not confirmed he was behind the theft attempt.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The possible sighting of Cavalcante came just two days after Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said that the killer may be trying to make it to his native Brazil. He had made attempts to abscond to Brazil while on the run from the original murder investigation. <br><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/convicted-murderer-escaped-prison-attempt-flee-back-brazil/story?id=102864478" target="_blank">ABC News</a> quotes DA Ryan as saying, &#8216;We have evidence to suggest that he was captured in Virginia but the ultimate goal was to go to Mexico and then to Brazil, which is his native country.&#8217;<br>Ryan reiterated the official advisory asking local residents to stay indoors and keep an eye on the houses of anyone who may have left for Labor Day Weekend: &#8216;We are requesting that residents in the area of Pocopson Township remain inside, lock your doors, lock your cars. He is still considered an extremely dangerous individual.&#8217;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">US Marshals reportedly, are <a href="https://www.inquirer.com/crime/danelo-cavalcante-escape-capture-chester-county-prison-20230902.html" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.inquirer.com/crime/danelo-cavalcante-escape-capture-chester-county-prison-20230902.html">working</a> with local, state, and other federal law enforcement agencies to find Cavalcante. &#8216;The very last thing we want to see besides someone getting hurt, is him to get into somebody&#8217;s house, getting a set of car keys, and then it&#8217;s off to the races,&#8217; said US Marshal Robert Clark. <br>Police have described Cavalcante as five-feet-tall and only 120 pounds, but warned the public to remain away from the &#8216;extremely dangerous&#8217; felon and call 911 if they have any information as to his whereabouts. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Earlier this month, a jury deliberated just 15 minutes to find Cavalcante guilty of the 2021 fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Deborah Brandao.<br>Cavalcante was wanted for murder in his home country of Brazil, and prosecutors said he &#8216;silenced&#8217; Brandao after she threatened to turn him in when she discovered his past. <br>His jail break came just weeks after he was found guilty of first-degree murder on August 16, and he was sentenced to life in prison on August 21 after two of his friends testified against him. <br>According to the Inquirer, he killed Brandao with a kitchen knife he had been using to cut meat in preparation for a barbecue earlier that day.<br>Jurors heard that he was angry at Brandao because she had threatened to turn him in to police, which came after she found out he had hacked her Instagram account to spy on her, Ryan said. <br>During his trial, prosecutors claimed the couple were in an abusive relationship where Cavalcante was &#8216;an angry and jealous boyfriend who needed to be in control.&#8217; </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the day of the murder, Brandao was playing with her two children outside her home when she was confronted by the killer, who told her he was &#8216;going to do something bad to their lives.&#8217; <br>He then stabbed her more than 30 times in her upper torso and neck, according to testimony heard at his trial, while her children screamed for him to stop. <br>While his attorney said the stabbing came as a result of their turbulent and toxic relationship, jurors were not swayed and swiftly returned a guilty verdict. He was sentenced to life in prison on August 22. <br>In a recorded confession played at the trial Cavalcante said that there was &#8216;no reason&#8217; for killing Brandao, however prosecutors claimed the stabbing was the culmination of a long history of domestic violence. <br>Danelo Susa Cavalcante a 34-year-old is a former gang member reportedly, was wanted in Brazil for the murder of a man who owed him money. It is unclear if there is an active warrant for his arrest in Brazil or if he is still being sought for questioning. <br>After the stabbing, Cavalcante&#8217;s lawyer said he called his mother and sister to confess to the killing, before he reportedly gathered two of his friends, Francisco Lima and Michael Scahill. <br>The two men testified against him at his trial in exchange for immunity from prosecution.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They said Cavalcante drove to a business where the three parked rented construction trailers, where they admitted to helping the killer wash Brandao&#8217;s blood off his hands.<br>Scahill testified that they gave him a change of clothes and told him to &#8216;disappear&#8217;. Neither man called the police, claiming they thought the couple had an argument. They didn&#8217;t find out about Brandao&#8217;s death until later that day, Lima and Scahill said.<br>Cavalcante immediately fled the area and remained a fugitive for several days before he was arrested in Virginia by a state trooper. <br>Following his sentencing last week, Ryan said he was being held at a facility for 30 days so he could plan for an appeal before his transfer to a state prison. He had been held in the facility without bail since his arrest in 2021, and it is the first escape at the 700-inmate jail in decades, according to the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.delcotimes.com/2023/08/31/danelo-cavalcante-convicted-of-murdering-girlfriend-has-escape-from-prison/" target="_blank">Delaware County Daily Times</a>. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Prosecutors argued that Cavalcante abused his girlfriend for years, and the 34-year-old has a rap sheet that includes assault. <br>In June 2020, police were reportedly called to an apartment the couple shared in Royersford, Upper Providence Township after reports of a disturbance. <br>Brandao told cops that Cavalcante flew into a rage during an argument and attacked her, biting her lip and drawing blood before chasing her and her children out of the home. <br>The incident led police to issue a warrant for assault, and although Cavalcante&#8217;s sister told law enforcement he would turn himself in, he never did. <br>Brandao then received a temporary protection from abuse order against Cavalcante after a second incident in December 2020 in which he chased her with a knife. </p>

He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with grey shorts with white sneakers, and was spotted walking along a side street around three miles from the prison following his escape. <br>The last escape from the compound was reportedly in the 1990s, when an inmate made his escape by hiding in a laundry basket taken out the jail in a delivery truck. </p>
