<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A suspect in the killing of a Chicago family-of-four and their three dogs has been shot dead in a burning car after fleeing from police in Oklahoma on Wednesday, Sept. 20.<br>Zoraida Bartolomei, her husband Alberto Rolon and their children Adriel and Diego were shot in their home in the Chicago suburb of Romeoville, on Sunday. The killers also shot the family&#8217;s three dogs.<br>Nathaniel Huey Jr, a 31-year-old from Streamwood, Illinois, was identified as “a credible suspect” in the quadruple-homicide case, as well as a woman &#8216;with a relationship&#8217; to him, later identified as Ermalinda Palomo . <br>With law enforcement hunting the the two suspects, Huey was killed and his female companion was wounded by gunfire and later died of her injuries on Wednesday after a fiery crash in Oklahoma.<br>The woman had been reported missing and in danger by her family on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, an SUV linked to Huey was spotted in Catoosa, around 650 miles away from the crime scene, on Wednesday.<br>Officers said they tried to stop the vehicle but it sped away. <br>The SUV crashed and caught on fire and two gunshots were heard. It was not clear who fired the shots. Police found Huey fatally shot in the driver&#8217;s seat and Palomo critically injured. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Romeoville Deputy Chief Chris Burne revealed Huey was found dead in a burning car after he was identified as a suspect. Ermalinda Palomo was found in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died. <br>Attorney John Paul Ivec said Palomo, a mother of five, who also had five grandchildren, had no criminal history and was a victim of a murder-suicide.<br>Chief Burne did not elaborate on possible motives in the murders of Alberto Rolon, 38, Zoraida Bartolomei, 32, and their two sons, Diego, 7, and Adriel, 9, who were found shot to death in their Romeoville home Sunday. Three dogs were also found dead.<br>A vehicle linked to him was identified in Catoosa using a license plate reader and authorities tried to stop him but he sped away.<br>It led to the car crashing and catching on fire. &#8216;Officers on scene heard two noises believed to be gun shots,&#8217; Burne said. <br>Huey was found dead in the driver&#8217;s seat and Palomo who was had also been shot and critically wounded. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries on Wednesday.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The incident led to the lanes of westbound Interstate 44, near Hard Rock Hotel &; Casino Tulsa, to be temporarily shut down at around 11.30am.<br>Police determined the shooting of the family was &#8216;not a random incident&#8217; and there is no reason for the public to stay indoors following the fatal shooting.<br>Romeoville Police Department Deputy Chief Burne said: &#8216;Evidence has shown us a nexus between our suspect and the victims as well as possible motive,&#8217; but he refused to reveal further details on the possible motive. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8216;Although Huey is identified as a suspect, this is still an active and evolving investigation,&#8217; a police statement said. &#8216;This portion of the incident is still unfolding.&#8217; ;<br>&#8216;We were able to determine this was not a random incident and there was no cause for a shelter in place order,&#8217; Burne said on Tuesday.<br>&#8216;This incident is the police department&#8217;s top priority.&#8217; Officers were called to the family&#8217;s property on the 500 block of Concord Avenue for a welfare check.<br>Their family said they have no idea why anyone would want to kill them, and Zoraida&#8217;s devastated sister has issued a plea for answers.<br>One of Zoraida and Alberto did not show up to work on Sunday and did not answer calls from relatives which caused concern.<br>Police tragically discovered the dead bodies and believe the shooting occurred between 9pm on Saturday and 5am on Sunday.<br>The Will County Major Crimes Task Force is helping investigators collect evidence and review video, Burne said.</p>

Our detectives and crime scene investigators have spent the last 36 hours collecting a tremendous amount of physical evidence.&#8217;<br>Romeoville Police described Huey as &#8220;irrational and erratic&#8221; with extensive firearms training.<br>Huey reportedly owned a private security company called Black Bear Security, LLC, with a Streamwood address listed, according to state business license records.<br>Investigators said they had images of Huey &#8220;pictured with assault rifles.&#8221;<br>Huey&#8217;s company&#8217;s Facebook page posted ads showing him armed, along with photos of guns and an apparent silencer, ammunition magazines, and a knife with the words, &#8220;I can and I will.&#8221;</p>

Speaking from Puerto Rico, Zoraida&#8217;s mother Lydia revealed she last spoke with her daughter shortly before her death on the weekend as the family settled down to watch a movie, and she could not understand why they had been targeted, adding that the couple were &#8216;so happy&#8217; and had only bought their $250,000 Romeoville home five months ago.<br>Relatives created a <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/zoraida-bartolomei-and-family" target="_blank">GoFundMe page</a> to cover funeral expenses for the couple and their two children, identified as Adriel and Diego. As of Wednesday night, it had raised more than $34,566, of the $28,000 target.</p>

The world is going to be a much dimmer place without them.&#8217;<br>Community members have been providing information and evidence to help piece together what happened.
