Arrested in 2021 and charged with murdering his father, Jack Callahan, now 22, has been found guilty of manslaughter after an eight-day trial in Duxbury

After his arrest Jack told police that his father who was being treated for alcoholism was possessed by a ‘demon’ that could be destroyed through exorcism

Adding, ‘I left him there to decide, you can come to heaven with me or hell. I think he chose hell’

Following his conviction, he is facing up to 20 years in prison at sentencing which is scheduled for May 3

A Banker’s son who drowned his alcoholic father in a baptism-style exorcism has been found guilty. 
Jack Callahan, now 22, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter after being charged with murder in 2021, after an eight-day trial and 25 hours of deliberation. 
Callahan went on trial mid April for the murder of his father Scott, 57, who was found by police floating in a pond outside Duxbury, around 30 miles outside of Boston, in June 2021.
He is facing up to 20 years in prison, as per Massachusetts law, and is scheduled to appear in court next on Friday, May 3.

On the night, then 19-year-old was bringing his recovering alcoholic dad home from a Boston bar when his mother, Wendy, called to say she would not have her ex-husband in their $1.5 million home in Duxbury.

The family lived in a $1.5 million five-bedroom house outside Duxbury, but Scott who was divorced from Wendy had been receiving treatment for alcoholism at a center in Hopkinton before he checked himself out and headed for the bar in Boston. 
His son Jack who had gone to fetch him from the bar told police at the time that his banker dad was possessed by a demon called ‘Dirty Dan’ who he thought could be destroyed through baptism.
Dropped beside the pond by the Uber driver Jack told cops, he grabbed his father and plunged his head under the water, repeatedly.
‘I left him there to decide, you can come to heaven with me or hell. I think he chose hell,’ as he told cops after his arrest.

Plymouth Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham said at Callahan’s 2021 arraignment: ‘He indicated that the victim had been punching him in the face.
‘He went on to state that in this incident at the pond, he believed he was baptizing his father.
‘He described that he was holding his father in the pond on his back like a baby, that he continually dunked the father’s head in the water about four to eight times, that when the father started to cough and choke, he would lift his head up.
‘And then when the father started to fight and strike him, he would push the head back into the water.
‘He did so until his father was no longer struggling and floating.’

Scott Callahan who graduated from Colorado State University according to his obituary was the Senior Vice President of Texas Capital Bank, and had an ‘extensive career in finance’.
However he struggled with severe alcohol dependence. He had been receiving treatment for alcoholism at a center in Hopkinton before he checked himself out and headed for a Boston bar, where his son went to fetch him, that Sunday night.

Wendy Callahan called police to report that her son was having a mental health episode and that her ex-husband was missing.
At trial prosecutor Buckingham said, ‘The mother indicated that the defendant had not exhibited this behavior before, had no history of mental illness.’
Police then called an ambulance after finding jack Callahan ‘worked up and distraught’, hyperventilating and passing out. Questioned he revealed that his father hit him, and he did not know where he was: ‘He’s missing. I don’t know what happened. I blacked out.’
When eventually he directed police to Crooker Memorial Park, cops who found Scott in Island Creek Pond he was taken to Plymouth’s Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 19-year-old Jack was arrested the following day and pled not guilty at the first hearing in 2021.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington at the time asked the judge to send the teen homicide suspect to Bridgewater State Hospital for a mental health evaluation, which the judge denied.
