Investigations into the causes of three members of a family dying after the consumed a Brazilian Christmas cake during the festive season points to ‘food poisoning’

Tragedy happened when seven members of a family gathered to enjoy a festive season meal at the home of one, in the city of Torres, in southern Brazil

Host, Zeli Terezinha Silva dos Anjos, 61, who prepared the traditional ‘Bolo de Natal’ festive treat on December 23, was one of six family members including a 10-year-old child who was also hospitalized

Tatiana Denize Silva dos Anjos, 43, and Maida Berenice Flores da Silva, 58, died after having the Christmas dessert of Bolo de Natal

Tatiana‘s mother, Neuza Denize Silva dos Anjo, 65, was rushed to hospital in critical condition before also dying on Christmas eve

Maida’s sister Zeli who was hosting the party, ate two cake slices and was the first one to be taken to hospital after becoming severely ill, where she remains in stable condition

Three other family members also felt unwell after having the dessert, including a 10-year-old boy, who remains in stable condition

Tatiana dos Anjos and Maida da Silva, both died from cardiac arrest, while Neuza dos Anjos died of shock after food poisoning

Traces of the poison arsenic was found in the victims’ bodies, raising suspicion since Zeli’s husband, Paulo Luiz, had died from suspected food poisoning in September

Cops who suspect either ‘food poisoning or poison’ said a power cut may be responsible and collected food and medicine in the home, some of which allegedly had expired, for analysis

His death was not deemed suspicious at the time, but cops have confirmed the remains of Luiz will be exhumed for forensic purposes

The mystery surrounding the tragic end of three women in Brazil who died after eating a festive cake at a Christmas get-together took a different twist after police investigations started digging into previous deaths in the family.
Tatiana Denize Silva dos Anjos, 43, and Maida Berenice Flores da Silva, 58, died after having the Christmas dessert on December 23. One other present at the get together, Maida’s sister, Neuza Denize Silva dos Anjos, 65, was rushed to hospital in critical condition before also dying on Christmas eve.
This horror happened during family get-together around the festive season, where seven people gathered to enjoy the cake at Zeli’s home in the city of Torres, southern Brazil.
It was reported that a family member, 61-year-old Zeli dos Anjos prepared the traditional ‘Bolo de Natal’ festive treat consumed at the festive dinner on December 23, in the southern Brazilian city of Torres.

Incidentally, Zeli was one of six family members including a 10-year-old child wore became ill with food poisoning after the meal. Unfortunately her sisters Maida, 58, Neuza, 65, and Neuza’s daughter Tatiana, 43, all died shortly after eating the cake.
Three other family members also felt unwell after having the dessert, including a 10-year-old boy, who remains in stable condition.
According to the Hospital Tatiana and Maida both died from cardiac arrest.

The medical cause of death for Tatiana Denize Silva dos Anjos, and Maida Berenice Flores da Silva, was cardiac arrest while cause of death for Neuza Denize Silva dos Anjo, was ‘shock after food poisoning’, Globo reports.
It is believed Zeli ate two cake slices and was the first one to be taken to hospital after becoming severely ill – where she remains in stable condition.
Once, she is discharged from hospital she will, reportedly, be questioned further. Neighbors at her home will also be interviewed by police.
In a new development police said the Christmas Cake poisoning could be linked to a power cut.
A friend of one of the people who died told a local news channel it was a traditional cake that the family made every year.
Civil Police who suspect either food poisoning or poisoning collected food eaten by the family and medicine in the home, some of which allegedly had expired, for analysis.
A police statement to local network, Globo, said: ‘We even have information that there was mayonnaise there that had expired a year ago.
‘There were expired products in the residence. A bottle was found, a medicine, which should have had capsules inside it and there were no capsules – there was a white liquid and this white liquid will also be examined.’

Zeli’s husband Paulo Luiz, [photo], had died from suspected food poisoning in September. Detectives have confirmed that his remains will now be exhumed so a proper postmortem can take place

Party host Zeli dos Anjos, [photo], has neither been arrested or charged with any offense, but she will be questioned when she’s released hospital

The death was not deemed suspicious at the time but detectives have confirmed Paulo Luiz’s body will now be exhumed so a proper postmortem can take place.
Torres-based police chief Marcos Vinicius Veloso said earlier this week of the Christmas drama: ‘With the evidence we have collected, we do not know whether the poisoning was negligent or intentional.
‘So far, I have not been able to find any intentional conduct. However, other evidence that comes to light may contradict what I think now.
‘This is an investigation that requires great caution.’
