A woman in Austin, Texas, woman has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting death of her mother in Rockdale, authorities said.
Brittney Deshay Shields was taken into custody Monday, March 31, after police found her mother, Stephanie McBride, 58, dead from multiple gunshot wounds at a residence in the 600 block of Rice Street, according to the Rockdale Police Department.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 5:13 p.m. following a 911 call reporting a deceased female inside the home. McBride was pronounced dead at the scene.
Evidence collected at the scene led Rockdale Police Investigators to quickly obtain an arrest warrant for McBride’s daughter, Brittney Deshay Shields, 39, of Austin, Texas. Police said all the evidence point to Shields acting as a lone wolf in the shooting.
With the aid of the decease’s family, detectives located the suspect at her residence in Austin where she was taken into custody without incident.
She remains at the Travis County Jail, awaiting extradition to Milam County.
Her two minor sons, aged 5 and 6, who had been the subject of an AMBER Alert, were found unharmed with Shields. The alert was canceled after the children were safely recovered, but the investigation is ongoing.
