Nevada mom sues school district after school yard bullies who stomped her son, 17, to death in filmed group beat down, get ‘slaps on the wrist’ in juvenile court plea
Johnathan Lewis was brutally stomped to death in a filmed beat down by a group of teens outside a home adjacent to a school in Las Vegas home on November 1, 2023
Lewis, 17, died in the hospital days later after falling unconscious, suffering severe head trauma and other serious injuries
Four of the nine teens arrested, Dontral Beaver, 17, Damian Hernandez, 18, Treavion Randolph, 17, and Gianni Robinson, 17, were arrested and charged as adults with second-degree murder
However, these cases were transferred to juvenile court in August as part of a plea deal that saw defendants admit to manslaughter
In September, a judge ordered all four to spend an undisclosed length of time in a juvenile detention center
Victim’s mother, Mellisa Ready, filed a lawsuit against the school district and the owner of the property where the attack happened
The suit filed Wednesday by Ready accuses the Clark County School District and Sandra Corona of wrongful death and negligence
The plea deal that transferred the case to juvenile court had Ready saying: ‘There’s literally no one being held accountable with true punishment for my son’s murder, it’s disgusting’

The mother of the 17-year-old Nevada high school student who was stomped to death by a group of vicious bullies near campus after school, has filed a lawsuit against the local school district.
Johnathan Lewis was stomped in a brutal group beat down by a horde of wild teens outside of a Las Vegas home on November 1, 2023. Rushed unconscious to University Medical Center, suffering severe head trauma and other serious injuries, he died in the hospital a week later.
Callously the bullies had recorded and disseminated the chilling assault.
Initially nine teenagers were arrested but only four ultimately were charged with second-degree murder and conspiracy charges in adult court.
However, the cases against Dontral Beaver, 17, Damian Hernandez, 18, Treavion Randolph, 17, and Gianni Robinson, 17, were transferred to juvenile court in August as part of a plea deal.
The victim’s mother, Mellisa Ready, on Wednesday filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the school district and the owner of the property where her son was assaulted. Ready accused the Clark County School District as well as Sandra Corona, [CCSD], of negligence.

The group beat down outside Rancho High School was captured on camera as a swarm or teens pummeled and stomped Johnathan Lewis on November 1, 2023. Days later he died from his injuries
According to the lawsuit, the attack by the feral pack happened immediately after school dismissed for the day, ‘adjacent to and partially on’ Corona’s property.
The area where the fight took place was a ‘known gathering spot’ for students attending the nearby Rancho High School for criminal activity and previous attacks took place in that area, per the lawsuit.
‘Despite this knowledge, CCSD failed to take reasonable steps to supervise students in or near the area, implement preventive measures, or notify law enforcement,’ the filings allege.

Teens accused of killing Jonathan Lewis L-R: Damian Hernandez, Treavion Randolph, Dontral Beaver, and Gianni Robinson, initially charged as adults, admitted to manslaughter in juveniles court for undisclosed time in detention, to the chagrin of their victim’s family

The feral group assault on Jonathan Lewis happened near Rancho High School on the afternoon of November 1, 2023. Cops who found the teenager bleeding from his head rushed him to University Medical Center where he was put on life support
The complaint also stated that Corona should have known her property was a hotspot for ‘criminal or violent activity’ and tried to intervene.
‘Despite such knowledge, she failed to secure the premises, restrict access, or take any action to prevent foreseeable harm to minors entering or traversing her property,’ the lawsuit stated.
It went on to claim that those responsible for beating her son to death ‘were known to the school administration and had exhibited prior aggressive or violent behavior’ before.
The lawsuit further detailed that there had been at least one altercation involving Lewis or his peers prior to the deadly fight. Hence school staff ‘were on notice or should have been on notice of escalating tensions,’ the complaint read.
The new legal filing claims the school district ‘owed a duty to supervise students, investigate and respond to threats of violence, and prevent reasonably foreseeable harm to students under its care — even in areas adjacent to campus grounds during or immediately after school hours.’

Sickening videos of the attack showed a group of teens hitting, kicking and stomping Lewis to the point of unconsciousness, which caused his death a week later.
Authorities in Vegas have said the students agreed to meet in the alley to fight over a vape pen and wireless headphones that had been stolen from Lewis’ friend.
Disquieting footage showed Lewis being carried to safety by a student and neighbor back to the high school after the savage attack.
Robert Draskovich, defense attorney representing Gianni Robinson, called the fight a tragedy, but said convicting the four as adults would have been a second tragedy: ‘This negotiation enables my client to graduate high school, move on with his life and become a productive citizen,’ Draskovich said.
As part of their plea deals, Randolph, Beaver, Hernandez and Robinson admitted to manslaughter and had their cases transferred to juvenile court. The judge in September, ordered all defendants to spend an undisclosed length of time in a juvenile detention center.

At the time the case against the suspects was transferred to juvenile court Mellisa Ready said, ‘There’s literally no one being held accountable with true punishment for my son’s murder. It’s disgusting.’
Ready was present at Robinson’s hearing. She addressed the defendants on the hurt they had inflicted on their family: ‘They destroyed my life’s biggest accomplishment as if he was nothing more than a piece of trash,’ the grieving mom said.
‘My 5-year-old son will one day see the videos of his big brother being beaten to death.’
She told the four, ‘We will live with these heartbreaking and devastating videos forever. You can never undo the damage that has been done. Jonathan is forever going to be gone from our lives because of your actions.’

Clark County DA acknowledged the bereaved mother’s displeasure with the plead deal. Lewis [L-R], was hospitalized with severe head trauma and other injuries and died a week later. Defending the plea, the alleged Ready was kept informed as the plea deal was negotiated
A statement issued by Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson acknowledged the bereaved mother’s frustration as well as ‘the pain she is going through as she mourns her son,’ even as he maintained that Ready had been informed about the terms of the negotiations.
While state law allows for teenager facing a murder charge to be charged as an adult if they were 13 or older when the crime occurred, the DA in defense of the resolution of the case in a stated that juvenile court is ‘best equipped to punish the defendants for their heinous conduct’ while also offering rehabilitation.
