The body of a missing woman was discovered ‘hidden behind a wall’ in the attic of a   ‘abandoned junkyard’ California home.
Renia Lewis, 28, of Berkeley, vanished on Friday, sparking a desperate search. Authorities zoned in on a ‘hoarder-style’ home on 14th Street in Vallejo, her last known location, but initial efforts turned up nothing.
But just two days later, investigators returned for another search of the home and found the missing woman dead, her body concealed ‘behind a secret wall’ in the attic.
On Tuesday, 41-year-old Douglas Irwin Shaw was arrested after police said he confessed to the crime, albeit without revealing the manner of death. He also did not clarify the relationship, if any, between them or how she ended up at the decrepit looking home .

Teri Lewis, the victim’s mother, texted her daughter on Friday but received no response, assuming she was following her usual habit of putting her phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ while sleeping. 
Checked the Life360 tracking app, the anxious mom said it showed Renia’s location at a home on 14th Street near Starr Avenue, which did not seem out of the ordinary, since her daughter had friends in Vallejo.

However, as the hours went by and no one heard from Renia, the family to launched a search. On Sunday, they scoured the neighborhood where Lewis’s phone last pinged. 
Her phone was eventually found on the roof of a nearby school, prompting the Vallejo Police Department and Patrol Division to launch their own investigation into her whereabouts. 
Police immediately visited the home following ‘indications’ that Lewis had been inside the residence shortly before her sudden disappearance.

Her family police that security camera footage from the nearby Safeway and her phone’s location indicated she had been there. During the initial police welfare check, searching every room, closet and possible hiding place did not turn up any sign of Lewis.
The following day, the detective division called in to take over the investigation, requested additional assistance from the FBI. Two days after the initial police visit, detectives returned to the home armed with a search warrant.
During the search, investigators uncovered a hidden doorway in the attic, which led to the discovery of remains of Lewis.

Authorities had to deliver the grim news to Lewis’s hopeful loved ones, who were shattered – her mother even collapsing to the floor. 
‘On our way from Stockton, I was praying,’ Teri told KTVU. ‘I just prayed, “God please don’t let it be her, please don’t let it be.” And he didn’t answer my prayer.’
‘I am devastated, that’s my youngest daughter, her birthday is on Monday,’ she added. ‘She would have been 29.’

Shaw was arrested at his place of work later that same day after authorities said he gave a statement to detectives, admitting responsibility for the murder.
The suspect was immediately booked into the Solano County Jail on a murder charge, without bail. He is scheduled for arraignment Thursday afternoon in Solano County Superior Court.
Despite having a suspect in custody, the nature of the relationship between Shaw and Lewis or the connection of either to the home remains unclear.
‘The person that they have in custody is being cooperative, he stated that he did indeed kill Renia, he threw her phone on top of the school – that’s the most information that I have,’ one family member told a local station.
