Alex Pretti, 37, an American citizen was shot dead by ICE agents in Minneapolis on Saturday, January 24
Alex Pretti had been injured in a scuffle with federal agents in Minneapolis just one week before he was shot dead, it has emerged.
US Border Patrol agent shot the 37-year-old American citizen dead in Minneapolis, a tragic event caught on camera. Pretti was killed during what appeared to be a struggle involving multiple agents just after 9am Saturday, January 24.
Viral videos show agents wrestling a man to the ground before one federal agent fires multiple shots into his chest, after which the agents scatter. The Department of Homeland Security at the time said the dead man, later identified as Alex Pretti, was armed with two magazines, and that the gun has since been recovered by federal authorities.

The Pretti incident was the third shooting in recent weeks involving federal agents in Minneapolis.
On January 7, an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good. A week later another federal agent shot at Venezuelan immigrant, s Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, striking him in the leg.
The injured man survived. He was charged, along with two others, with attempted murder for allegedly, assaulting federal agents in Minneapolis with a shovel and broom handle.
A week before agents shot him dead, Pretti, 37, was left with a broken rib after being tackled by a group of officers during a protest against Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, CNN reports.
The alleged assault occurred after Pretti stopped his car after seeing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers chasing a family on foot, the insider said.
Pretti the witness said began shouting and blowing a whistle, before he then was tackled to the ground by five agents. The source claimed one officer leaned on his back, causing his ribs to break.

The target of the pileup who allegedly ‘thought he was going to die’, was reportedly released at the scene – but allegedly remained on federal agents’ radar.
However, the Department of Homeland Security has stated that “DHS law enforcement has no record of this incident.”
According to reports, federal agents deployed in Minneapolis were instructed earlier this month to ‘capture all images, license plates, identifications, and general information on hotels, agitators, protestors,’ according to documents obtained by the outlet.
Prior to his being shot dead by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis on Saturday, federal officers are understood to have kept documented details about Pretti, but it’s unclear when surveillance began.

Pretti is seen in footage in the street filming with his phone on Saturday as a small group confronts an agent, his other hand empty – appearing to contradict DHS statements that shots were fired ‘defensively’ against Pretti as he ‘approached’ agents with a gun.
Multiple bystander videos show a Border Patrol agent shooting and killing Pretti after a roughly 30-second scuffle around 9am Saturday.
The videos appear to contradict statements by DHS, which said the shots were fired ‘defensively’ against Pretti as he ‘approached’ them with a gun.
Gregory Bovino, the US Border Patrol commander-at-large, has said that Pretti planned to ‘massacre’ federal agents when he was killed. However, in videos circulating of the incident, Pretti is seen with only a phone in his hand. No footage has shown with anything looking like a weapon in his hand.
During the scuffle, agents discovered that he was carrying a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun, and they opened fire with several shots.
A federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order banning the Trump administration from ‘destroying or altering evidence’ related to the death of Pretti.

Following the shooting, DHS and Border Patrol officials portrayed Pretti as an instigator who ‘brandished’ a weapon at officers. While it has not been confirmed that Pretti’s gun fired any shots, Department of Homeland Security boss Kristi Noem immediately called Pretti a domestic terrorist.
That characterization by Noem appears to have irked the Trump administration. Critics have decried the lack of training in crowd control by the officers, with some in congress calling for the impeachment of secretary Noem.
By law, Customs and Border Patrol is required to inform relevant congressional committees about deaths in CBP custody within 72 hours. The agency is required to report in-custody and certain other deaths involving its agents and officers to Congress.
A new government report sent to Congress on Tuesday claims that while an officer shouted that Pretti had a gun, it does not mention Pretti having taken it out. The report is based on investigators from CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility analysis based on a review of bodycam footage and agency documentation.

Federal officers confronted protesters in Minneapolis on Saturday. During the operation one protester, Alex Pretti was shot by officers, approximately 8 seconds after he was taken down by multiple officers, with his hands pinned to his head
Officials said that at around 9am Saturday, CBP agents were faced with several protesters ‘yelling and blowing whistles’ at the officers, while also blocking the roadway at the intersection of 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue.
Dissatisfaction with the Trump administration’s deportation crackdown, ICE and CBP has increased since Pretti was shot dead. Noem has also seen a dramatic loss of confidence, latest polls reveal.
In Congress, Democrats launched an investigation into Noem.145 of 213 of their House delegation now co-sponsors an impeachment bill alleging that Noem has been self-dealing, obstructed Congress and violated public trust.
In a push back, the administration insists Noem is not stepping down, issuing a defiant statement standing by the DHS boss.
Still, in the aftermath of Saturday’s events, the Trump administration Monday, sidelined Secretary Kristi Noem, dispatching Border Czar Tom Homan, an ICE veteran, to take charge and de-escalate the situation in Minnesota.

DHS initial version is that Pretti was carrying a a Sig Sauer P320 semi-automatic gun at the time of the fatal shooting
Making a public defense of Noem, ‘I think she’s doing a very good job,’ the President told reporters outside the White House on Tuesday.
‘The border is totally secure … we had a border that we inherited where millions of people were coming through, now we have a border where no one is coming through.’
This public support is coming after reports that the president late Sunday, grilled Noem over her remarks about Pretti at a meeting attended by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles in the Oval Office
The president was allegedly, was frustrated with Noem after she called the Pretti ICU nurse at Minnesota’s veteran Hospital, a ‘domestic terrorist’.
Noem has since been sent off to secure the Southern Border, away from immigration enforcement operations in the interior.
In another possible sign of de-escalation, Mayor Jacob Frey announced that ‘some federal agents’ will be leaving the Minnesota city.
Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino, aka ‘little Napoleon’, has been ordered to leave Minneapolis in a major shakeup initiated by Homan.

Walz slammed the Trump administration Saturday, declaring state authorities would probe the fatal shooting of Alex Jeffrey Pretti. ‘The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota,’ Governor Tim Walz wrote on X. ‘Now’.
The President spoke with Mayor Frey and Governor Walz on the phone Monday, and on Tuesday, the governor’s office said he met with Homan and called for impartial investigations into the shootings involving federal officers.
To help maintain order in the wake of the fatal shooting, the governor activated the state’s National Guard, but immigration officers by Tuesday, reportedly were still active across the state’s capital area.
