A 45-year-old New Jersey mom and special education teacher sobbed in court as she was sentenced to 12 years in prison for raping a 15-year-old student she was “obsessed” with, as the teenager forgave her transgressions.
Allison Havemann-Niedrach, a former teacher at Freehold Intermediate School, broke down as the victim delivered an emotional statement to the court before a judge delivered the sentence on Friday, August 28.
The student, who was not identified being a minor, said his months-long relationship with the teacher was “like a nightmare” and that he would not want anyone to suffer the same experience.
“For two or three years, I thought it was my fault,” he told the court.
“I forgive her for what she did,” he said, prompting the ex-educator to burst into tears.
Prosecutors said that Havemann-Niedrach was “obsessed” with the teen.
“I apologize profusely for my actions,” Havemann-Niedrach said in her own statement. “I am moved by his forgiveness.”

Havemann-Niedrach, a mother-of-two, pled guilty in January to sexually assaulting the boy when he was in eighth grade over a six-month period. The rape happened in 2024.
Authorities began probing the Jackson Township woman when the school’s vice principal reported concerns about her relationship with the teen after another teacher allegedly saw her rubbing his neck and back, touching his leg, and flirting, prosecutors said.
The boy’s mother told investigators that she had become concerned about her son after his sister saw him sitting in the teacher’s car and noticed he was on his phone late into the night.
The uncovered 25,000 messages Havemann-Niedrach sent her son. It is alleged the boy also bragged to his friends that he was dating his teacher.
Questioned by investigators when his mother dragged him to the police station, the teen eventually admitted to sex with the teacher.

State Superior Court Judge Jill G. O’Malley did not hold back as she sent Havemann-Niedrach to prison.
“You are his trauma. You ruined him,” O’Malley said, raising her voice.
The abuse caused the boy to consider killing himself before he revealed the relationship to his mom, she said.
Havemann-Niedrach must serve at least 85% of her sentence as part of a plea deal.
Her teaching certifications revoked and required to become a registered sex offender, Havemann-Niedrach is prohibited from ever contacting the victim or his family.
