The Irvine Police Department wrote on Facebook Monday: ‘On August 19, 2016, at approximately 9:20 p.m., IPD officers responded to a report of a naked man – now identified as Marinovich – crouching in the bushes near Venta Spur Trail.
‘IPD officers searched the area and ultimately located Marinovich naked hiding in the backyard of a residence off of Bluecoat.
‘IPD officers also located a bag belonging to Marinovich containing suspected narcotics and paraphernalia.’
Authorities said that Marinovich was arrested ‘for trespassing, possession of a controlled substance and narcotic paraphernalia’.

The former football player was ‘cited and released’, according to Irvine police.
The 47-year-old Marinovich was a star quarterback at USC and the Raiders’ first-round draft pick in 1991. However, drug problems drove him from professional sports. He fizzled out of the NFL back in 1993 after two seasons and he has battled serious drug addiction during and after with repeated run-ins with the law over drugs in the decades since.
He had supposedly, put his demons behind him and seemed to be on a good path back in 2011, when he said he’d been ‘sober for three year’ and had taken up been painting and sculpting non-stop. Back then he told TMZ , “I’ve been sober for over three years … the art is my main therapy.”

A Heisman candidate at USC, Marinovich was selected in the first round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the then-Los Angeles Raiders, who later removed him from the roster after two seasons because of repeated drug use.
His history with illegal activity includes pleading guilty for felony charges of cultivating marijuana at his home in 1997, an arrest on susupicion of heroin possession in 2000 and another felony charge for possession of a controlled substance in 2005.
