A Toronto man once arrested for a nine-month-long string of bank heists now faces murder charges for his alleged crossbow rampage through a suburban neighborhood.
Toronto police responding to a call about a stabbing found the two men and one woman bleeding on the ground around 1 p.m. in the Scarborough area of east Toronto, according to spokesman David Hopkinson. Police arrested a suspect, Brett Ryan, allegedly related to the victims at the scene.

Ryan, 35, once known as the city’s “Fake Beard Bandit,” was charged with 29 counts of robbery in 2008 for a series of bank stick-ups.
Police said the then-27-year-old robbed 14 Toronto banks over nine months. Each time, he disguised himself with a fake beard.

While he was arrested and charged for the robberies in June 2008, it’s unclear if he was convicted. Officers rushed to the scene around 1 p.m. Thursday after an emergency caller reported a stabbing in the area. When they arrived, they found three slain victims: Two still had bolts, arrow-like projectiles fired by a crossbow , still lodged in their bodies, while the third had bolt wounds.

A fourth victim was hospitalized with non-serious injuries. Police have not released the names of the victims, and officials have not detailed a possible motive in the brutal killings.
“We don’t have any idea with regards to why this may have happened,” Toronto police spokesman David Hopkinson said.
