A North Carolina woman has been indicted on a count of first-degree murder in the death of her father.
In May a Davidson County grand jury did not find sufficient evidence to indict the 20-year-old Maleigha Loale Allen.
Three months later, after the bi-annual rotation of the grand jury, the charges against Maleigha Allen was represented to the incoming grand jury, leading to the reinstatement of the murder charge.

The events unfolded after Maleigha Allen was found with stab wounds about 7:20 a.m. April 17, in the area of Whispering Oak Drive south of Thomasville, a short distance from the home she shared with her father.
“We knew her address. … She said this happened there,” Sheriff Simmons said.

An autopsy later established cause of death was multiple stabs with a knife.
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office at the time announced that Allen apparently had been killed by his own daughter.
On April 21, Maleigha Allen was arrested after she was released from the hospital, booked into the Davidson County Detention Center without bond.
However, within five days came the announcement that Maleigha Allen, was no longer facing first-degree murder charges in the death of her father, Michael Steven Allen.

Separate misdemeanor charges of breaking or entering and resisting a public officer were also dismissed, with court records indicating those charges were unrelated to the homicide investigation.
Her attorney, Karen Gerber, confirmed that charges were no longer pending against Allen.
Amid the controversy of case against Maleigha Allen being dropped after a grand jury refused to indict, news emerged that appears there is more to the story.
Notably, when Maleigha was 13, a slew of charges were brought against Michael Allen, including incest, child sex abuse, physical abuse. Those charges were later dropped after the alleged victim recanted.

Maleigha’s attorney, Karen Gerber expressed disappointment that the state chose to re-present its case for indictment against Allen this week during the first Superior Court session of July, with six new grand jurors.
“While we are disappointed the State chose to seek another indictment, an indictment is not evidence,” Gerber said.
“It is the procedure by which a felony gets to Superior Court to be litigated.
“The issuance of an indictment by a new Grand Jury does not alter our position regarding Ms. Allen’s innocence.”
